Really? I didn't have a problem picking it up on the '13. '11 is even more noticeable.

'12, I'd probably agree with you. That was just a beetus bomb.

Its not just your palate. I don't get any actual coffee flavours in all of the last 3 vintages I've tried, so my palate is just as fucked up as yours, I suppose.

They should make a porter with the second runnings and call it Less Beetus.

WHEN you can taste the coffee, you can taste where it comes from. There is a local coffee maker here in Orange County that The Bruery, Noble Ale Works and some others use called Portola Coffee. Mocha Wednesday and Naughty Sauce are brewed with it. You can definitely tell that is Portola Coffee. A very distinct flavor profile.

Whether or not you can taste the coffee at all, well that will be a FFF problem

BCBCS is a coffee bomb and I love it.

2011 was so strong when it came out my friends and I called it Coffee Dark Lord. The flavor faded fast over the first two weeks though. It made it one of the worst ones to age imo because now you can still taste it, but it has that old coffee green pepper thing going on.

guys at the end of the day the coffee is buried in that beer but come on, name a more metal sounding local coffee company then dark matter. Unless ipsento is the name of some dark demon I'm unaware of.

I'm just as big of a coffee geek as I am a beer geek (we have a commercial espresso machine plumbed into our house) and I think this is an interesting change. I love Intellegentsia but lately Dark Matter has been killing it. For a traditional chocolate bomb espresso, which is what works well in beer, I prefer Unicorn Blood over Black Cat. Several years ago, Intellegentsia changed Black Cat from a traditional espresso (chocolate leaning) to a third wave espresso (citrus leaning), hence why there is normal Black Cat (the new formulation) and Analog Black Cat (supposedly the old formulation). With that said, Intellegenstia has a much more varied selection of other blends/roasts and their single origin offerings are tough to beat. Of course, they're much, much larger than Dark Matter so things like those snifters and mugs might not be as plentiful (but really this is just having someone screen your logo on a cheap piece of glassware so it's not that tough to pull off).
