tough to say. Do I include the cost I spend on a new fermenter or mash tun or pump or bag of grain? Cost to attend NHC/GABF/a competition? Shipping cost for a trade? If so it's many thousand. But that's vacation and hobby, and not just drinking. I rarely buy commercial beer anymore, maybe $5-10 a month, but that doesn't mean my wife is pleased with the amount I spend on beer...

    cheers--

I'd say this year I'm on pace to spend about $800. But, I made a dedicated effort to trying new stuff in an effort to raise my beer knowledge from Novice to Amateur and I'm well on my way to having tried 300 new beers this year. I figure after this year, I'll scale it back a lot and just go after stuff I know I like and the things I know I REALLY want to try, instead of just grabbing anything and everything that looks like it could be good.

I spent over $1,300 at bottle shops and breweries in 2013, it was fun and all but it seems expensive to me. I will see if I can find a loophole to deduct these important expenses come tax time ;p

You and I are also guilty... but... well, you know what - it's delicious and makes us happy.

I think 2011, 2012 were my spendiest of all the years I've been a BA. Easily topped 3k+ both years, what with picking up beers by the cases and such other madness... Now it is back to the basics for me. I'm sticking to taster flights, old standbys, and the occasional splurge. More than a financial constraint, it was my inability to drink more than I was buying that lead to this scaling down....and so far no complaints.

Having just completed my first full year as a craft beer aficionado, I am afraid to actually figure out how much I've spent. I am sure it's in the 0-500 range but to which end I'm closer, I don't think I want to know:rolling_eyes:

Factor in the shipping costs for trades and I'm nearing the $1,500 mark.

That seems pretty low, honestly - that being said, I'm an impulse buyer, and terrible with my money - I just started my first full year, I hope I can keep it in that bracket. I want to believe it will get more affordable as time goes on and my appetite settles, but... I don't know man...
