Is there anyway to find the date on their stuff? Last time I tried it I definitely got an old bottle, and I'd love to give it a second chance to let those awesome vanilla notes shine through. How can you tell if you're getting a fresh(er) bottle?

The only beer I've never liked and that is saying something.

Whoa, serious Innis & Gunn hate here. I thought I remembered the dates being on the 4 pack holders but I could be mistaken.

With clear bottles, the date should read "stale, no matter what"!!!!

Yup. God awful. A friend brought a 4 pack over and after we each powered through a few ounces we both agreed it was time to drainpour the rest

Not sure on dates but it isn't a beer that I drink thinking/caring about how fresh it is. I would only have one regular sized bottle in one sitting and just take it slowly enjoying the bourbon/rum etc type flavours

Does straight-up sugary malt really get old?

Bingo. I'm amazed at the non-awful reviews on here. What a bad beer.

I'm with you wesbray. I certainly enjoy having their beers now and then. it's also great being able to get an oak aged beer in regional Australia.

They seem to divide opinion like few other beers. I'm on the side of them being horrible sweet messes with no redeeming features whatsoever. I've not tried the "IPA" they have done or their porter/stout yet though

Anyone here who doesn't understand the Innis & Gunn hate clearly hasn't been around long enough.

    1) It's easy to get
    2) It's affordable
    3) It comes in clear bottles
    4) It comes in bottles that are *just* slightly under 12 oz
    5) It doesn't have a quadrilliondy percent ABV
    6) They don't do anything crazy to "push the envelope"
    7) It doesn't have 657,000 IBU

All these things equate to "but it'z not whalez, bro!", which on this site= hate.

Seriously, though, despite my wariness of the clear bottles (I typically only buy I&G products that are in cardboard gift packs for this reason), I actually really enjoy I&G's products. Yes, they are on the sweet side, and no, they aren't going to blow your mind. But the variants are interesting. I will admit I'm not a fan of a few of their offerings, but to say they have no redeeming qualities is just strange to me.

Many of my favourite beers fulfil all those criteria, but I still seriously dislike I&G. Not sure that 'whale status' is the issue here.

No. The reason I don't like it is because it's not good. I've drank many many beers, and Innis and Gunn was my only drainpour

Their beer is nothing special, but it's not bad, definitely doesn't deserve a drain pour. Their bourbon aged porter is really good. Most of their beers taste similar, vanilla notes and very sweet. If you dont like those two flavors then their beer isn't for you, but not bad beer overall.
