Customers requested, we listened and now we’re gearing up to deliver!

On Thursday, February 20th, we are adding to our year-round beer line up of beers. We’re adding an everyday, drinkable companion to our intensely hoppy, incredibly popular, Flower Power India Pale Ale. It’s called Green Trail Easy-Drinking India Pale Ale. Green Trail will ship out to wholesalers Monday, February 24th and make its way onto store shelves and draft lines around the Northeast shortly thereafter.

Don’t let the “easy-drinking” part of it’s name mislead you. Green Trail still delivers a mighty hop punch, but also has a smooth malt body that masterfully balances that famous Ithaca Beer hop intensity. Green Trail has “instant hit” potential with die-hard hop heads and new craft drinkers alike. Weighing in at 6.0% ABV, Green Trail neither overwhelms taste buds nor underwhelm palates as sessionable and approachable IPAs often can. Ithaca Beer’s lead brewer, Bill Ballweber put it best, “Green Trail is just a perfect everyday, go-to, instant-crowd-pleaser IPA.”

“What is Green Trail?” one might ask. For founder, Dan Mitchell, Green Trail is a mindset. “It’s about blazing a path that sets you apart from the norm, or that way of thinking out of the ordinary. It’s on that green trail, you often, grow, discover, experience and hopefully improve your surroundings just a little bit…we’re on the Green Trail around here (at Ithaca Beer), are you?”

MALT: 2-Row, Pale Crystal, Caramalt, wheat

    HOPS: Columbus, Cascade

    ABV: 6.0%

Sounds tasty. Kind of interesting to see Ithaca release a new IPA that looks like it's going back to basics, as it were. Hey, if it's good, it's good—I will most definitely be giving this one a shot.

Assuming this is as good as it sounds and comes in priced underneath Flower Power, this really does have potential. Looking forward to giving this a try.

I'll take Two-Hearted at 7% if we are considering session to be 6%

Why don't they call it a Pale Ale?

Because they want it to sell? (Only half kidding.)

Honestly, from a strictly ingredients-based standpoint, I still haven't found a clear explanation for what separates them. What I've come to understand is that IPAs are more hop forward, where as Pale Ales are a little more even in terms of the hop/malt balance. And since this one is described as "deliver(ing) a might hop punch", that makes me think more of the description of an IPA than a Pale Ale. But if someone's got a better, clearer, and more informed answer, I wouldn't mind hearing it myself.

I honestly don't know either. In my mind it's usually an ABV & hop combination that differentiates them. This just sounds more "pale ale" to me, for whatever that's worth. Lower ABV, less hoppy than Flower Power. I dunno, IPAs are the drink du jour I guess

We're on pace for anything under 8% to be considered sessionable soon. Jeez.

Would be more impressed and likely to buy if it was 5% or less. Plenty of good IPAs at 6%. I realize its splitting hairs, but Notch Session Ale at 4.5% is the gold standard for easy drinking hoppy, balanced beers.

Was expecting this to come in below 5% to look to compete with Daytime, All Day and Stones Go To. Guess not. I'm still trying it and I'm sure it will be solid. Really cannot wait for Stones Go To to hit! Have a feeling that one is gonna be in heavy rotation this summer.....

Are we not in America? If I want session beers to be 8% than I can damn well have 8% session beers. sarcasm

I tried it at the brewery last weekend and I was very impressed. I went for Flower Power and ended up filling two of three growlers of the Green Trail. Now if they just bring back The Creeker year round, I'll have myself a serious hometown brewery to toast.

My GF was in Ithaca last weekend and tried to get some. She called the brewery which had it available on draft and in 6/12 packs. Unfortunately she didn't have time to actually go there but was told by the person that she spoke to that the beverage center and wegmans in Ithaca both had it. She tried both and neither had it so I'm thinking it's still "on the way".

I went to the brewery tonight to try the cask version dry hopped w/ Citra. It was good, but not great. The regular version on draft was also pretty good, but temper your expectations. Also I saw it at Finger Lakes Beverage and Ithaca Coffee.
