I have loved everything Jack's Abby has done thus far and I sing their praise over and over again in various circles. Usually there prices are solid, however last night when I saw coffee and vanilla framminghammer for $10 I had to walk on by. That's just way too much for one beer. I'm sure these beers are great, especially the coffee, but no way am I dropping that kind of coin. If you've got the bread, head to Yankee in Attleboro, they had tons of each last night.

I thought they were excellent last year but not excellent enough to warrant the price increase this year. I passed as well.

Gotta find a place that does discounts on 6 or more loose bottles. I'm lucky enough to work near a place that does this (15%) and gets the good stuff.

Most places I go to do that too. It's a decent deal if you want to try a bunch of new things and not commit to a sixer (or if it doesn't come in sixers at all). Mix a six has lost it's luster to me these days however. I mostly just stick with sixers of styles I'm interested in. Sometimes I get burned (Sam Adams Cold Snap, for example), but most of the time I enjoy whatever I've got immensely (Long Trail Limbo, for example)!

Yeah... if I'm only looking for one or two, I usually just fill out the six with staples that I drink regularly but don't tend to get in 4 or 6 packs (such as the Belgians, weihenstephaner, or other bombers).

Its especially beneficial, since my store (Julio's in Westboro MA) has a program where for every 6 loose bottles you buy, you get a card punched in addition to the 15% off. After a set number of punches you get a 'hold card' which greatly improves your chances for some of the really hard to get releases. They've definitely suckered me in and since I work a mile and a half away...

Just so people know, Julio's isn't doing the 15% off on the variants. I suspect these would move much faster at $8. For me, $10 crosses a psychological threshold (so does $9.99, for that matter, because my subconscience ain't no fool). I'm sure they'll all sell eventually, and the brewery's new price structure will be validated. But purely from a consumer standpoint, knowing that last year I got five bottles for the price of four, on a MUCH more limited release, definitely gives me pause.

On a price per ounce basis, isn't this basically the same as a $13.49 bomber or a $15.99 750? For a BA baltic porter? Finding it hard to get too upset.

My point isn't that it's overpriced on a cost-per-ounce basis; in fact, sales figures would probably show that people are willing to pay it. My only point was that the large increase over last year's price definitely influences people on the fence. Even if the beer was "underpriced" last year to attract new customers, I'd be surprised if most self-interested consumers think, "Gee, I got an incredible deal last year... Good thing the market corrected itself." My initial thought was, "Hey, what happened? Are they using gold bottle caps now?" Maybe I'm alone...

I am sure JA is happy with how the beer is selling. If you think its too expensive, by all means, do not purchase it. I happen to not agree and have bought a few bottles of each.

This was my definitely my reaction to the regular BA Framinghammer's pricing.

The variants cross that $15 per 750mL equivalent mark that makes me pause to consider quality before buying. I have deeemed them worthy, though in less quantity than last year.

Wasn't regular like $5 or $6 last year? I seem to remember picking it up for about $5

Any places still have the variants? No luck with trades so it's time for a 2 hour road trip.....

The variants are everywhere around Boston now. Don't know about Western MA.
