Debating on going up there... Likely wouldn't get in line til 10 and reading the comments makes it seem like I wouldn't get in until 2ish. Hmmm. The dilemma!

I don't understand why anyone has a problem with people doing this if they want to?

There are families, every single day, that travel down to Disney World and spend THOUSANDS for entertainment. Who's to say the guys that travel down for this release are having any less joy than those people? Probably more!

I think you make a good point. I actually think most folks don't have any problem with this sort of thing, but I do think a lot of us are amazed that someone would go through this kind of hassle for a beer.

Personally, I HATE to stand in line, and I'm probably not as social as some folks are on here. So that probably colors my opinion/impression. Hence, the idea that someone would drive a great distance, or spend a lot of time and money, just so they can stand in line for 5 or 6 hours, just to drink a few glasses of beer, seems shocking to me. However, I keep on reading about folks who have a great time, and see the whole thing as an adventure, so my opinion/impression is clearly not there's.

Anyway, you're absolutely right. It's their time and money, and if that's how they choose to spend it, why shouldn't they?

I was first in line yesterday, first in the door, got the first pour of the day of PTY at Russian River BP. I formed the line at 3:30am and it was only myself and an entertaining crackhead down the street until about 5:30am when finally a group of people arrived. My fiancee thought I was insane but hey I couldn't sleep because I had PTY on my mind! I quickly learned that next year I'll come around 7am (weekday) because there were only about 10 people in line at that point. The key is being in the first group of about 150 or so to be let in, because the wait that everyone is complaining about stems from the wait for the first group to stop enjoying themselves inside and leave so more people can come in. I was lucky because they saved some Beatification just for the Younger release and both these beers made my insanity worth while! What an experience.

So, it's not just beer then, and your smugness was totally disingenuous. Got it.

+1 for the most part. There was at least a small bit of facetiousness in my post.

The wife and I went last year (2013). We -- really I -- waited in line for 3 hours on a Thursday afternoon. We got in around 6:15pm and had two PtYs each before they shut off the supply for the day. While I don't have much patience for lines, I knew this was the only way I (just me...others have other means) was going to get PtY.

We ended up going back the next day (Friday). The line was even longer, but we had saved some places with people from the night before. We scooted right in the door early in the afternoon. We had as many PtYs as we could handle. The atmosphere was great and I would do it again...though I don't feel like I have to.

One more thing -- if you go all that way and don't attend The Bistro Double IPA Festival in Hayward, you're crazy.

If you guys are looking for something similar that's in bottles. Knee Deep out of Auburn CA makes a triple IPA called Simtra. I'd imagine you could get some on a trade.

Yes it is just beer. Will I make it a point to partake this month? Maybe. Maybe not. It's not high on my list of priorities. But to turn out a local pub that takes care of its year round locals vs. the throngs of one and done? No, I won't be doing that. The locals pay the bills every month much more than one keg of younger can pad the tables. 365 my friend. Cheers.

Beyond places already named, if you need to take guesses at who might be getting kegs, just check the list of RR accounts on their website. That should help everyone unearth secret caches of PtY.

Do you really think that I read 9 pages of PTY chasing? Maybe I should have said "who was the first..."

So who was the first to say that previous years were better or did that happen in a different thread?

Thank God, there is such little hype over this one...

But I guess I better get my sleeping bag ready, and my wife should tell the kids that daddy is gonna be back in a few days.

J/k I've had it before, more than once. Loved it. But don't have time to wait in horrendous lines. Actually, don't have the desire to wait in those lines either. So be thankful if you are one of those people in line in SoCal, because I will not be holding you up by being in line in front of you...
