I bought Nugget Nectar in northern Baltimore today (near Towson), bottle date 1/24/14. And my local guy in Bergen County, NJ held my case to pick up tonight, bottle date 1/28/14. Boo yah.

I had nugget on tap again today at Troegs and im pleased to report that it seemed better than my experience 2 weeks ago. Was considering getting a 6-pack (bottled 1/30 in the general store) but passed and opted to buy BA nator instead.

Just figured I should chime back in since my last post was an angry "wtf is this" and this experience was on par with expectations.

I see some Pittsburgh area stores advertising more NN, has another shipment landed in the area?

So what's up with Nugget Nectar and/or Hunterdon's supply this year in NJ? What are people paying for a case?

I've purchase between 1 and 3 cases of the beer every year, save 2012, at least since 2008 (that's when I started saving receipts - and may have just lost 2012's? Or did posts of "not the same from the new brewery" tales scare me off?).

Never had any problem finding it or buying it at reasonable prices, and I'm not a truck chaser nor interested in "whales".

Found a stack of about 5 cases at Shop Rite Liquors in Freehold yesterday. Thought it was odd when there was no standard Shop Rite price card on the stack, but since I've paid $36.99 - 40.99 for cases there in previous years, grabbed a case and took it to the register.

Rang up at something like $63 (not sure the exact amount since that was after sales tax) and the cashier saw my surprise. I thought back to this thread and couldn't recall any mention of a near 50% price increase (paid $41.99 last year at Joe Canal's) but before I could say anything, like "There's no case discount anymore?" another employee came along and said, "You can only buy 2 sixpacks of that at a time," and ripped the case open and removed the sixpacks.

Huh? "There was a stack of them on the selling floor - It's not like I snuck into the back room and grabbed it..."
    I left.

Later in the day, I stopped into a Bottle King - saw no Nugget Nectar on the floor (even thought they'd assured me they'd get it after weather-related delays) asked and was told they'd only sell me one sixpack. :grimacing: I passed again.

Never had any problem with finding this beer in previous years, often well after it's release (the bombers in particular often well past their own "Best before" dates), and assumed that with the new brewery online, supplies would be adequate and the beer would remain a normal "shelf" seasonal beer. Will probably write off Troegs' products at this point - too much great beer on the shelves for me to play these "rarity/limited/50% above suggested retail" games.

Sound like your distributor and or retailers are playing it a little fast and loose this year. I got my case here, (generally have my local guy order it so I don't have to go looking) at a few bucks more than last year (mid 40s IIRC) and have been finishing it off a few bottles a week.

Follow on, I switched to my laptop so I could check some prices. Here's what I paid for the last 5 cases of NN.

    2014: $44.49 w/o tax

    2013: $44.49 w/o tax

    2012: $44.49 w/o tax

    2011: $45.99 w/o tax

    2010: $45.99 w/o tax

So my conclusion is that its not at the Brewery level and your distributor and/or retailers are indeed playing fast as loose and are the ones to write off.

Ha- yeah, I was thinking along the same lines (and getting ready for a message to both, despite the inevitably of a lack of a satisfactory reply):

Looks like we have proven that NJ prices -at least at retailers who do discount cases - are better than some in Pennsylvania.

This guy I use is a bit higher than I could find but he's really good about going out of his way to find stuff for me if I'm looking. Basically if it comes into PA in bottles hel'll order it and track it down for me.

But I agree we're probably looking at PA prices a buck or so above NJ case discount prices.

Not concerned about case prices as I never buy them, not even beers I love like Nugget Nectar. But as of right now NN is still not available at any price in downstate NY (LI). When will it land here? Another week or two...or three?

The snow caused a lot of problems with trucking toward New York and New England. Mass and New York trucks leaving the brewery on a daily basis.

Good news. Maybe I can start looking this weekend, though I suspect next week might be more realistic.
