Over the summer and at opening I think I remember the official statement being "not yet". I've since seen a few people ("VIPs") with bottles and my friends and I got special permission for a small cali huna tasting but nothing like what I've done at CCB or other breweries. Are they down with bottle shares yet? They have such a big space, and I have some beers I want to compare with theirs!

Edit: This is for the brewery, not the lounge

I wouldn't count on any huge bottle shares, but if you know the crew well enough I'm sure you could talk to them about setting up a small one.

They might be pretty strict at the brewery though, it has a lot more exposure to the general public. Best off just asking a bartender you know well.

The Sybarite Pig has an official bottle share ever second Tuesday of the month. Lots of good people, though it was a bit too crowded 2 months ago, this month's was just right with about 6-8 people participating.

I know some guys get together for a bottle share night at The Mack House as well, but it seems like that one is secret squirrel style with invites only and people bringing heat.

I had an impromptu bottle share at the Lounge once, but it was more like, "oh hey I have this beer in my car you guys wanna try it? "

I have been the the Pig's bottleshares, although not the last couple months...it's a little far for me in Davie if I'm going to be drinking and I usually work the next day. I organize the more recent mack house bottleshares and attended some of the older ones, pm me if you would like to get in on those! Last week (sat) we had a private share in the homebrew side of the buddha lounge for a going away party for a friend...so much vintage CCB!

Anyway, it seems like the answer is still "no" unless you are getting special permission and going through hoops. Oh well. I'll talk to some of the guys up there and get something together I suppose.

Pieman, I used to go to the Mack House shares with Mike, Blair, John, Josh, etc but we haven't been doing them since Josh moved away. Is that the one you used to go to? I wasn't aware it was still going on. I went to the Pig bottleshare last week, but it's a mixed bag. Some good cats there, but also some dudes who show up with a bag of bombers they just bought from Total.

Hey! We started doing them after Josh moved away with a different group, although I talked to Blair lately about restarting the old group and combining the two. I had the same issues with the pig shares. I'll let you know the next time we have one at Mack.

Yeah, definitely hit me up. Mike is close to Mack House as well and he always brings great stuff too.

Yeah that's why I felt the secret squirrel vibe at the Mack House shares. I'm one of those dudes who will show up with a bottle of Oude Tart. I don't always have heat to bring, but I do when I can. I'm not getting bottles of Dark Lord, but I thought my BA Frosted Frog was pretty special.
I just feel like my bottles wouldn't live up to the rarity expectations.

I would say this. The rule for our bottleshare was "Bring something you can't get around here." It doesn't really matter what it is. Rarity is never a big deal. Some people bring crazy rares, some don't. I try to alternate between sometimes bringing a baby whale or something like that, and then sometimes just bringing like a shelf stout from somewhere on the west coast. I usually only break out the crazy rare stuff at the special bottleshares (like BA stout blowouts and stuff like that).

Not everyone trades, and nobody in our group ever really cared if someone showed up with a bottle of something they got around here, as long as they brought something that showed they tried. I can tell you right now, if you showed up to our share with an Oude Tart, NOBODY would complain. At the Pig bottleshare I went to last week, these guys rolled in with Iron Maiden Trooper singles and some Clown Shoes. And a few dudes literally came with nothing. That shit is disrespectful.

I brought a 2010 Dark Lord and a Cascade Elderberry, don't show up with fucking Trooper singles.

I said it above, but I just want to reiterate again. Rarity isn't important, dude. Seriously. At the next bottleshare I do, I'm probably bringing a Chocolate Camaro that I've been meaning to open. And on top of that, I'll probably bring a Kumquat Sour in the Rye or an Upland Blackberry. None of these are rare. Chocolate Camaro is a shelf beer.

    David,
That's why I sort of excused myself when you invited me to a bottle share. I just didn't think I had any thing worth while to share. Quite unlike the shares we used to do some years ago. (he, he)

Jon, just bring anything good. There's always too much to go around. People take the bottle share stuff too seriously. Nobody is looking around and scrutinizing what gets brought, as long as it's not junk.

Not to mention, I told you that if you came and didn't have anything, I'd spot you a bottle of something anyway! You are one of the people that got me into craft.

The only bottle sharing that I witnessed at the brewery was for MBCP day. There was one larger one and a few randoms. Other than that I believe they are discouraged. I have randomly brought a couple of rarer bottles into the lounge just to pass around and try, but I also know the staff much better there. Not sure if that flies at the brewery.

Side note I agree Tequila that the Pig's shares can be mediocre. I have only been to a couple, but I never get too excited about it.

Yeah, I've done it at the lounge as well for the same reason, I just know that crew a lot better as they've been around longer and have less of a revolving door of new people. I'll still go to the Pig shares, but I'll probably scale down what I bring quite a bit, I think. I'll save the crazy stuff for the other ones.

Tyler, bottle shares are a no-no at the brewery as per Ryan. They made an exception to the rule for MBCP Day and will probably do so for big releases in the future. I did an IP trade at the brewery a while back and popped a HF growler back by the bocce ball court and no one said anything about it, but a full fledged share its a completely different story.
