In theory, the shocktop could be awesome also:wink:

Next thing you know, someone will make an artificial tasting peanut butter and chocolate porter and try to pass it off as a good craft beer! Oh, wait . . .

well i guess if you are into drinks like YooHoo it might appeal to you. As for me, I cannot for the life of me imagine myself thirsty enough or drunk enough to set it to my tongue. Thank you BA for supplying a fair warning.

It could be, but my previous experience with the Shocktop brands suggest it would be far from awesome.

That & if it was great, someone up the chain from corporate would ask WTF? & get it purged. I've had one or two alright beers from those guys; but for the most part they seem to be terrified of flavor...

I was able to try it in "test beer" phase and it was ehhhh. If you want a nice chocolate beer take Sam Smith Chocolate stout. done.

Agreed, but aren't you curious why this one beer is rated almost a point higher than the other shock top beers. Mid 3's on over a hundred reviews has me curious

Sorry but that sounds absolutely disgusting coming from Shock Top.

I tried it... It was horrible. It tasted like chocolate soda, so bad in fact that I couldn't finish it and had to pour it out.

I had it on new years 2012, it was ok, and far from offensive. I don't mind the Shock Top brands, including the IPA, but they are not very boldly flavored. OP, I think you would just be disappointed in the end.

The question is.... Who puts this beer together and says "now that's a beer I would like to sell to the public"? It makes no sense to me.

I assume that a BMC brewer says "I would like to sell to the public anything that the public is willing to buy."

Judging by the fact that there are fans out there of vomit-inducingly sweet beers like Shock Top Honeycrisp Apple Wheat (and I was at a party where people were RAVING about Redd's Apple Ale) I have to say "the public" is willing to buy a great deal of crap.

I would try it, but I wouldn't seek it out.

(One big difference in reading the reviews that distinguish this from the Short's Chocolate Wheat is Shock Top apparently uses chocolate as in cocoa, where Short's uses chocolate malt, as in barley)

I work for a company that distributes the Shock Top line and it comes in the six pack mix and in a 12 pack seasonal with three other Shock Top flavors.

You can say the same thing about regular Shock Top. But it sells. It's for people that think wheat beer is "exotic" and "weird".

Yeah - that's what I thought - they were onto a really cool idea but the execution was very poor. If founders did this it would be great.

In a related note, I really want to try the shock top honeycrisp apple wheat - just to see what it's like. The concept is unique enough to make me curious, though, I'd be more excited if it Were shot top peanut butter apple crumble with vanilla ice cream.
