I'm flying out to Seattle for a week in March and was hoping for some tips on breweries/places to visit. I'm also curious to know if there are some good bottle shops you would recommend, and if there are any brews that get distributed there that do not get distributed to the Midwest.

    Thanks,
    Sean

I visited Seattle for first time in January. Stayed downtown and ventured up to The Wurstplace, loved it there. They had Boneyard Notorious which was awesome. Good brats, nice selection and super nice staff.

I highly suggest traveling north of downtown to the Seattle neighborhoods of Ballard and Fremont.

Thursday-Saturday are when multiple small brewery tasting rooms are open. It's a cinch to travel on foot from one to the other. I see some Seattle brewery tour van occasionally but I have no idea what that thing does. The real beer tour is the Route 28 bus.
If you get homesick while visiting Seattle for a week you can always stop by http://zaydabuddyspizza.com/ in Ballard.

Seattle beer scene is excellent but not still far behind SAn Fran, Diego, Portland and even Bend as far as West Coast beer towns go. Better off detouring south.

Great advice, thanks! I'll be on Bainbridge island visiting my girlfriend's parents, but we plan on venturing into the city often. Not sure if she will bring her car into the city or not.

Not trying to sound like a jackass, but I was more looking for honest opinions from locals, not necessarily trying to read reviews on every single brewery and pub in the city.

Bottle Shops: Chucks (2 locations), Bottleworks, and Pear Delicatessen near Pikes Place is pretty solid

Breweries: Fremont, and the Ballard Quadrant (Reubens, Stoup, Populuxe, NW Peaks, Peddler, Hilliards, Hales)

Bars: Brouwers, Burgundian, Uber, all the Elysian locations

As you can tell, I live north of Lake Union, so my selections are biased.

You would recommend someone visiting Seattle to "detour" to California? Could you actually quantify why he should make this "detour"?

If you're going to be on Bainbridge, then you should check out Bainbridge Island Brewing. If you venture into the city with a car, West Seattle would make a nice stop. The Beer Junction is a great bottle shop with a lot of great taps as well. Plenty of nice food nearby, including the amazing Bakery Nouveau and ice cream from Husky Deli. If the weather is nice, a walk on Alki beach with your girlfriend provides some great views of the city and Puget Sound. And, of course, don't overlook Beveridge Place Pub.

    Hope you enjoy your visit!

Yeah. That's why I go to PDX as often as I can to buy up all your beer.

Outside of hitting downtown from the ferry from BI, you will need some sort of transportation. The bus works well, but takes more time. Uber works very well around the city if you don't want to drive/park etc.

I live in West Seattle. We have the Beveridge Place which is a very chill atmosphere, relaxing place w/ tons of taps. You have to get food delivered if you're hungry though. We also have the Beer Junction which is an excellent bottle shop with tons of taps & counter pressure filled growlers so you can fill & take home with you.

Going to the Eastside, specifically Redmond is well worth the trip to Black Raven. You can also hit the Malt & Vine bottle shop while there.

As far as Fremont/Ballard/Wallingford go. All of the places mentioned above & in the links are well worth hitting, but I would go to the respective neighborhoods & take your time walking around. Lots to see & enjoy beyond beers.

    Have fun!

Yeah, ditch your entire family and go hang out in San Diego. That'll be fun. I did hear that San Francisco almost has double digit breweries now - think they had about 5 when I was there last year.

The OP can take one bus, Metro #5, from downtown and be able to hit some of the best beer bars in the city with only the smallest bit of walking. From the #5 bus, you are within easy walking distance of Fremont Brewing, Sixgill, Brouwer's, Park Public House, Uber Tavern, 74th St. Ale House, and Naked City. For a bit of a walk from Naked City, you could also hit Chuck's Hop Shop.

OR he could take the light rail to Seatac and fly to San Diego for a real beer scene.

I'd add in The Yard. Along w/ Naked City and Chuck's, makes a great little area.
