It's Bavaria, centuries old traditional clothing, I saw it all the time in Bavaria. I know people in the Czech Republic and Poland (and yes, Russia Stahl) who often dress in traditional garb for big events. Making fun of how people dress is just a little too Junior High, don't you think?

(and no, I don't own any of the traditional clothing myself, but if I lived in Munich I just might)

I know many people who do, but over here it does seem a bit much, in the heart of Southern Germany it's quite quaint, IMO.

I don't remember seeing this in Germany (probably because pretzels are plentiful in general), but this is what many in the US beer crowd wear to beer fests.

We have a several people who wear kilts down here. So, I thought, why not Lederhosen? Until I saw the price.

No kidding. I wanted to buy some this past year, but the pants alone run about €180 and an entire head-to-toe outfit would probably be around €250. I bought a checkered shirt and left it at that.

How many Bavarian pretzels could you wear on a string? Two?

Very jealous! ... of the beer you guys will be drinking this weekend, not necessarily the Lederhosen. Wish I could be there! Enjoy!

I see kilts at a lot of weddings… not sure I'd wear one if I lived in Ireland or Scotland, as I might traditional Bavarian clothing in Bayern.
Yeah, don't see the little, crunchy pretzels in Bavaria.

Is that how my initial posting came across ? :astonished:
I was referring to the facial expressions of the people on Tony's pictures...

Then you are looking in the wrong places. They are available in every supermarket in the snack isle

I have Lederhosen. My wife picked up a nice set for 100€ on ebay.de and were a mandatory requirement if I wanted to see her in a Dirndl.:grinning:

They do make for perfect fest wear - the more you splash on em, the more 'seasoned' they become.

Didn't spend too much time in the supermarkets. So now that you've seen the silly necklaces you can start a new trend in Regensburg -- sell it as an "American Tradition." Just like IPA.

Now you need to take her to the Faust-Bier Dirndl-Springen.

    BrauKunst Questions for these in-the-know:
    a. Do the doors open Saturday at 1600?
    b. Is there parking at/near the venue? (is it expensive? Try to decide if it may be cheaper to take a taxi).

    danke

    FÜR EXTERNE AB HAUPTBAHNHOF:
    • U2 Richtung “Messestadt Ost” nehmen

    • ab hier: alle 10 Min. kostenloser Shuttle zum Festivalgelände (= 7 Min. Fahrzeit!)

    FESTIVAL-ÖFFNUNGSZEITEN:
    • Freitag, 21.02.2014: 16.00-23.00 Uhr
    • Samstag, 22.02.2014: 14.00-22.00 Uhr
    • Sonntag, 23.02.2014: 13.00-19.00 Uhr

To the parking question.... HELLO... this is Germany. Parking in a big city is practically impossible. My advice, park your ride where your hotel is, and take the U-bahn, U2 and exit “Giesinger Bahnhof”, after which there's a free shuttle from the subway station to the MVG-Museum, running every 10 minutes. If you insist on taking your car, I remember people parking their car on the roads near the Museum. I remember seeing them walking 5 to 10 minutes from their cars. Most of the nearby parking will already be taken by the staff and trucks of the companies with displays, who will all be there long before it opens, and I remember the museum's parking lot was completely full of trucks/vans for refilling casks, kegs, etc. The place will be packed and parking will be practically impossible near the site, but hey, Americans gotta drive, eh?

Personally, I'm taking the train Saturday morning from FfM to Mü, check in and drop my shit at the hotel, which I booked across the street from Mü Hbf, and then mosey on over to the site by U-bahn to be there around 2:30 pm or so. It might be easier finding a parking space on a street near “Giesinger Bahnhof” and taking the shuttle.

Ah, thx I was looking at the program starting time vs the expo. D'oh!

Naw, we not interested in driving to the venue - just looking at options. I like your plan - we'll take the Ubahn to the G-Bahnhof and pick up the shuttle.

The true "live art of brewing": Kellerbier being delivered today to the caves of the Schmausenkeller outside of Bamberg for lagering and, ultimately, consumption during the Biergartensaison.
