I was going to comment on RobertC's post as well, but you did respond first, but I will add a little.

I agree with the chasing beer thing, I know almost all of us are prone to that, myself included, but I really disagree with his statement about if missing a release means something it makes you an alcoholic. I don't think it has anything to do with being an alcoholic. I could be wrong but wouldn't an alcohol be someone who needs beer the minute they wake up, multiple beers all day long, etc. (Could be wine/liquor whatever). I don't think being upset about missing a release makes you an alcoholic...that's where he lost me in his semi-pretentious post. Before that I felt like he was on the right track to some great advice (and what was said in the beginning was solid)

I end up with a lot of beers in house, most are bottles I want to open and share with people (Big Stouts, etc, since the wife doesn't drink dark beers, but loves Wheats, Sours, Fruit beers), the good news is when my father in law visits we tend to open some of the bigger beers, but there is just never great times in general to get people over to share them with as often as I'd like. There are bottles I am intentionally aging (Bigfoot, WWS, etc.) but in the end I do find myself with more beers than I can drink, plus with dieting, since we joined a workout contest at our local gym (Jan-May), the beer tends to add up and then I end up with more than I can personally consume.

There really are two options, not buying or drinking more, but, I haven't found that balance yet.

    Solution: Buy heavier beers.

I will add the third option of sharing the love. A lot of things I enjoy come in sixers which alway gives me a couple to pass around.

I think you are correct it's about the hunt for some people. That's why there is so much rare hunting beer people I don't think they enjoy the beers they acquire near as much as trying to obtain them.

I've got twins coming soon, so I am just stocking up for when it's all over. Picked up 4 more BCBCS today, and I don't feel bad.

Yeah agreed, I like to do that too, I just had a great BA'er bring me a six pack of New Glarus Coffee Stout (as he was passing through), I drank 1 for myself, and I shared the rest with some friends.

On a regular, I tend to not buy a lot of 4/6 er's and more of the make your own 6 packs / 22 / 750s. That's where I get into the problem of over stocking. Some 22's and 750s are beers I would love to just split with someone else. I guess most of my problem also lies into a balance of diet / exercise / beer drinking, problems of a former fat kid I guess.

Yeah I don't think its about being an alcoholic at all unless you wanted all the rare beer to crush in one days time...unless our definitions of alcoholic are completely off, I don't picture the person chasing rare beers / limited beers as being defined as an alcoholic, that's where I was lost in that post and felt it to be pretentious and less credible. Now, can that person upset about missing releases be an alcoholic? Yes, but not because he feels bad about missing a beer release.

Agreed. I get tempted to grab big bottles all the time and I just sit them back down more now. I put a Blvd Rye on Rye back down today and its great. They tend to build up in the fridge faster, are more likely BIG beers and if I only bought one, I am a little less likely to give it away until I have had one myself. Sure they age and last a long time but based on the rate they build up, a few go a long way. I can enjoy a 12 oz beer here and there and not break the bank, get a good variety and not have an exploding fridge.

No, no I agree with you, it sounded real pretentious as if he was better than you and your over buying was due to lack of palate.

Edit: Lost in that post, meant lost in his response post...not the original post.

Do you have a cellar spread sheet? That can help you organize what needs to be drank now or later especially if you put a bottles date into a seperate field in the spreadsheet for the new beer that you add. Once the spreadsheet is set up, it litterally takes 2 minutes tops to add your new bottles that you buy or get from a trade into the data sheet. Also seeing the spreadsheet give you an idea of exactly how many bottles you have onhand in your stache! This has really helped me out alot with organization of my beer stache, beer trading, and know when to consume beer so they stay fresh! I dont have a massive stache of beer though, less than 60 different bottles.

Take heart brother ! This is tough time of year for alot of us. Late winter/ spring seaonals are the best as far as I'm concerned. Remember that too much of a good thing will quickly turn into a bad thing really fast. If you absolutely just have to go to the store . . . Well, get something you can sit on for few months. Then finish what you have on hand. After that enjoy the summer seasonals. Hang in there . . . We'll get through this together.

I have cases of Torpedo, Sucks, Hi-Res, Hop JuJu, and Flower Power in my car in addition to what ever else is in my beer fridge. So ya, I don't think it's just the TS.

I spent more than ever in the last 2 months with the releases of Prairie Noir, Vanilla Noir, and Bomb. Then came the recent availability of Coop and Rough Tail in my little town. I stocked up like they were one-offs and...oh $hit...

while I appreciate your support it doesn't make it ok for me to belittle his opinion. Whether his palate is better than mine there is no point in arguing over it, he is entitled as anyone to their opinion that's what makes 'Merica 'Merica :stuck_out_tongue:

Totally forgot about this thread. yeah, if anything I've almost gotten worse. When I really stock up though it's ageable beer (for the most part). Right now I'm sitting on over a case of fbs, a case of fis, 3 sixers of sucks & nugget nectar, multiple 4 packs of dirtwolf & hop ranch. Plus all the bcbs/bw, fw limiteds, eclipse variants, bigfoots, heresy, ect I have aging, I probably got between around 200+ beers on hand again.

I was/am still the exact same way, if not QUITE to the extent. I homebrew too...and the only way you get better is by brewing. LOTS. Long story short? We're having our first kid. Do that, you'll spend a shitton less on beer if you're taking care of a family w/modest (at best) means
