Just as good as last year. One of my all time favorite Black IPA's.

Yeah this beer truly lived up to the hype. Like a roasty porter with a stout like feel and juicy citrus hops. Definitely a top 5 Short's beer.

I did have it last year once at the beer fest. After having my first bottle this release my rating went from a 4 to a solid 4.5.

I drank two pints of BA Wiz last night at the Pyramid tap takeover. My head is not happy with that decision right now.

Pours thick like motor oil..heavy like a freight train. The warmer it got, the flavors exploded. Really enjoyed this great sipper!

anybody ever had this one with some age on it? i know it falls into the ipa category but i feel like this would be pretty tasty down the road.

I had my final bottle last year about 8 months after bottled on date, and it was still outstanding. Hops were still fairly bright for 8 months old too. I bet it'd need at least two years plus to see the hops fall off completely. I feel like what you'd have left is a slightly more roasty publican porter.

Just had a bottle about a month ago from last year...it is what it sounds like. Hop had faded, still some bitter malt going on. It was still a good beer. I won't age any this year, but I didn't mind holding back 2 or 3. Still have 2 left from the first release just for poops.

Anyone hear any updates on Freedom of '78 yet? Their schedule says Late February... seems like it'd have to go out today to hit that mark. I'm only impatient because it's my favorite Short's beer.

My guess is that it's delayed, making March one of the best Short's release months EVARRRR! Freedom, Superfluid and Hopstache!

Turns into more of a hoppy porter, lots of roast down the road!

Hate to play devils advocate here, but I was not a fan.

Someone used the description of a "Hopped-up Porter" which I think is more accurate than "black-IPA". Semantics? Surely.

I guess I want a little more body and toast in my porter and a little less hops; I want a little less malt in my IPA and a little more hop complexity (this is just a punch in the tongue).

But I love Shorts (besides their bottle art) and I'm eagerly awaiting '78, again.
