Alpine Brewing is now Gluten Free.

    Didn't notice this anywhere on the board, so if this is old news, sorry.

    But, apparently Alpine got some yeast strain from White Labs that eats up gluten. So now their beers are all 98.9% gluten free. Heard some cool stories from the bartenders about dudes who had to drink bullshit for years, found out about gluten free Alpine, and had the time of their lives. Anyways, could be a big breakthrough for our gluten free brethren.

    PS- I'm pretty sure all of Alpine's offerings contain this new additive. And the reason it isn't made so public is because Pat was concerned people might think the beers would taste/look different. But I was there on Wednesday and the Nelson was still the best beer in the world.

    Enzymes, not yeast strain. And it's gluten reduced technically, not gluten free. And they did mention it in their latest newsletter...

    Man, this came out much more negative than I had planned. I like the thread! It's definitely of note, and the title is much more straight forward than the other. I just felt I needed to correct a couple things. Definitely good to hear that some gluten free people were able to drink it fine too

    I love Gluten and their Nelson is still the greatest beer ever. Alpine Brewery are amazing

    This product is gaining interest in the San Diego brewing community. The 'deglutenizing' effect is simply a beneficial byproduct of its original intent.

    And as mentioned, gluten reduced but not gluten free, which is an impossible designation for a barley based product.

    Maybe the gluten is now happy to be almost Alpine free as well!
