I doubt that very, very much.

I've had roughly six times my body weight going back to 2008 in Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Barleywine & I've yet to have one that was less than stellar. Not only that, but this might be my all-time favorite aging beer, & I've had them up to five years old with nary an infection. Nor have I ever heard of anyone in any of my tasting circles having a bad one. If you did indeed have an "infected" bottle, it's an extreme outlier, but I'll wager it wasn't.

I've had no problems with Peruvian Morning this year. Last year's were about 50/50 for me, but it's so bloody good when it's fresh I can't help but buy it.

After enjoying the BBBW and the BBBS for the last 3 years and reading about PMs infection issues I was very surprised mine was off tasting, I was not surprised about the PM. I have much appreciation for a lot of other top brewers barrel aged barley wines and stouts, this is the first time i've heard of CW babw being off BUT IT WAS ! I Still have some from 2012 that I think is probably still good.

Six times your body weight ? I doubt that very much [IMG]

Cheers, and may all of your CW Barrel aged beer that you have bought not be infected. I really don't see them having this thing fixed.

I'm with this guy. I've been scooping up all the bourbon barleywine I've seen for years now. That beer is nectar of the gods, never once have I come across an infected bottle. Bueno.

Peruvian Morning on the other hand has been infected in the past but with this years release I would assume it's still too early to be much of a problem. Drink those delicious coffee stouts fresh and when the carbonation gets high, drink them all. Good to go. If they get drank the infection can't take hold.

Being I have had 12 "uninfected" bottles so far this year, stop buying the beer so I can get more of it. That solves both of our problems. You are clearly spreading rumors as Central Waters has mentioned nothing about this.

Not a rumor. I was told from a very reliable source that it was being recalled and he was packing it up by the case in front of me. I want Peruvian morning as much or more than the next person.

Clearly not a rumor being I just bought another 4-pack 2 hours ago. Labeling your source as very reliable means nothing to me. Unless your source has ties to the inner workings of Central Waters or is an outside agency (clearly not the case being he/she was the person stocking the beer) performing a test to determine the adverse affects of the beer, your "source" carries no weight.

I just had 2 bottles the last couple nights and it is amazing. I notice no infection at all....

last year i bought a few 4 packs of peruvian morning. half my stock was for shit. i even posted pictures and "reviewed" my good stock. then i ran into the shitty stock and did the same. The same thing happened to me in 2012 good and bad beer. Both original threads are filled with identical rants and raves on what i just said.

2013 stock is the second confirmed time it's happened, back to back. I'm not surprised if it's true again this year. i made my bed and won't be buying it this year or next, maybe 3 years from now when there's a clean slate.

the beer is great, when it's bad, it's shit.

if you feel that confident, i got a four pack of last years stock waiting for you if you want to send me anything in exchange for it but you gotta post a picture of you drinking it. HECK, give me a label and i'll throw it in a box if you want. I don't see myself going to Central Waters anytime soon to get a refund or an exchange. BBBW and regular stout are A class, i'm keeping that and even bought some this year.

As another reliable source (Steve's beer buyer), I can confirm that we were instructed to pull our stock of Peruvian Morning today due to infection.

That said, it seems to be very similar to what has happened the past two years where the infection doesn't show itself right away, but the bugs are there.

Goddamnit. I opened a 2014 Peruvian Morning this fine evening. My wife asked me if this was supposed to be a fruity stout. She didn't believe me when I said there was supposed to be coffee. And I felt the same way. That's all you really need to know about what I think about this beer.

Given that you're in Minnesota, that's a bit of a crapshoot... report back?

One would think that living in the age of the internet, any relevant news story to this topic would have surfaced by now. This has yet to be the case though. The fact that Madison would still be selling the beer having the second largest population in the state and being the capital is quite confusing. I can tell you from personal experience that I haven't contracted diarrhea or compulsive vomiting from drinking this beer. So what this "infection" entails has escaped me. If I have been drinking infected beer from Central Waters, then their infected beer is simply delicious.

When a beer is infected, it isn't contaminated in the same way beef or spinach will be. There is little to no potential for illness. Instead, a spoilage bug (bacteria) gets into the beer at some point in the process, pre-bottling.

The spoilage bug (bacteria) turns the finished product into something unintended by the brewery. In the case of Peruvian Morning, it becomes tart and very unpleasant to drink.

You're free to keep drinking it, if you like it. It's going to take a few months for the infection to really show itself, but rest assured... It's there.
