I understand the OP's point about trying to have a common point of reference, but...

    1) convincing everyone on BA to adopt the practice will never happen because it's not practical. Most people just aren't going to bother noting BMC prices, and quite frankly.....

    2) ...I honestly don't care what the price of beer is for anyone else. When I purchase a beer I will judge for myself if the price is appropriate. The prices in California, Maine, Kentucky, or anywhere other the store(s) I'm shopping at are irrelevant. I know I'm not alone in that opinion.

FYI - I believe BMC recently inched their prices up to "compete" with craft beer since there are still those in the world who think that if something costs more, it must be better. And the craft beers you mention are known for their competitive pricing. As far as jumping down the OP's throat, everyone is entitled to their opinion, aren't they?

I'm using the Steel Standard. A 24oz Steel Reserve (2-11) is a buck a can at the local Stop & Go.

    Loosie Newport's are .50/each.

Not sure. Your response to the OP would lead me to believe otherwise.

Although you turned a general response to a specific reply to the OP quoting his post, the response was my opinion.

And you are welcome to it. I would only suggest that people might value your opinion a little bit more if you didn't present it in such a confrontational manner.

Thanx. I'll keep it in mind. Problem is, I've been this way all my life.

Price check threads are the absolute worst. Too many factors to count when comparing across markets. Trying to standardize useless threads - still useless.

Sorry, been a while since I've chimed in. Basically, regarding the price comment threads, I thought to be able to keep it real and relate the best would be to use a baseline that is universal and standard for anyone, anywhere which is a 6 pack bottles of BMC. Even 99% of craft bottle shops probably still sell BMC (maybe a few super elitist ones don't but most do). This way you can always compare craft beer prices as they relate to cost difference to BMC at same purchase location. The price difference to BMC at same location of purchase as a baseline makes alot more sense for good value, than one guy in CA saying ....I bought craft beer x at a grocery store in Oregon for $7.99 and another guy in Kansas saying darn I pay $9.99, you're so lucky. Well if the Oregon grocery store sells BMC for $3.99, then craft beer xxx is $4 more a six pack than BMC but if its $8.99 in Kansas then $1 more than BMC adjunct crap seems like the much better deal for the craft beer now doesn't it? That is my thinking anyway...price check post on a same beer within a city are fine to find the best store deal but comparing state to state is stupid, unless we relate it to a baseline (BMC is the universal staple beer).

Plus, I'm intrigued to see if there are quality craft beers is certain markets that can be had for near/equal or below BMC pricing. IMO, that is the holy grail for craft beer to really explode big-time in the future.

I like your logic, but it hurts to even look at (let alone taste) the BMC products

In NJ there is a large difference from store to store for both craft and BMC. It would be hard to set any sort of a base.

I don't see how you can pride yourself in being a craft bottle shop and stock BMC myself.

BMC pays the bills. I don't knock a store that does if they have a top notch craft selection and knowledgeable staff. In the end, owning a beer store is a business, and if an owner decides they can make more money by selling BMC, then so be it. And hey, if said owner, because of the volume of BMC they sell, is then able to sell me craft for a buck or two or many less than what other, craft-only stores charge - even better.

Bmc may be the staple in america but not on this website, if u check the ratings. You need to know your crowd, your logic isnt ridiculous but the flaw is the general community here wouldn't compare sierra nevada or founders to bud light even if it cost a buck. Its not a factor

For every one bottle of craft brew sold, 24 cans of budweiser are sold. At least that is my experience in my area. I can spend 15 minutes or more searching for exactly what I'm looking for, and in the meantime a case of bud flies off the shelf every 5 minutes without the consumers even breaking stride. Not dissing the bud drinker, or the shop owner because how could you look down at a beer proprietor selling beer to a beer drinker to make a profit? In response to the post, I like the idea of comparing prices to a BMC product but even in one town a 12 pack can vary 3 to 4 bucks, not to mention sales, deposits, which places charge tax which ones don't, etc.

No BMC and the lowest craft prices in town. Cheers

If you guys can find on Seekabrew a partical craft beer that is sold everywhere (Sam Adams Boston Lager perhaps?), fine start recommending for people to refer to that pricing as the baseline comparison if it make people happy instead of BMC! Geez the elitism/snobbery with the BMC comments is rediculous and completely off subject. I'm not promoting the corn made crap beer, just using as a baseline universally known beer price so people can more accurately compae craft beer pricing in different areas. Like Sponan said, maybe its a useless attempt as too many people on the board want the spin and slant their statements to their own agenda instead of just disclosing accurate realities.
