I'd be fine with doing 2 leagues, this and a Yahoo. What about a 12 team, 5x5 roto league on Yahoo, with OBP replacing AVG, and Quality Starts replacing wins? Who would be interested?

Can you elaborate on this? What's wrong with doing one this year?

If I get some more interest, I can start this up this league, but I'd need some suggestions on payout.

my humble suggestion would be to not require boxes for all players. then you can just do payouts as

    5 boxes to 1st
    3 boxes to 2nd
    1 box to 3rd

something adding up to 9 boxes (4th place through 12th place send 1 box each, can coordinate who sends what to each place). and everyone could agree on the value per box, $20 or $50 or $100 or whatever. another wrinkle would be to put in penalties for the real bottom of the pack people, ie 12th place needs to send 3 boxes, something like that, just to help ensure people try, otherwise you end up with people quitting once its clear they wont finish high

to do that you need to trust everyone will send out at the end of the year so probably want to make sure everyone is an upstanding citizen, etc

I never cared for QS. 6 IP and 3 ER is not quality by any means IMO. Also never cared for roto, would be interested in a H2H yahoo league with no auction.

I think this is a solid payout structure. I like not making the top 3 have to pay. I'd say make last place do 2 boxes, so it would be 6 boxes to 1st, 3 to 2nd, and 1 to 3rd. Value somewhere between 25-50.

QS is not perfect, but is a much better than wins IMO. True, 6ip and 3er isn't a great game, but that represents the very bottom of the QS threshold. Guys can get a win with 5ip and 6er or pitching only a 1/3 of an inning in relief. Mostly, wins are team dependent, where QS are entirely in a pitchers control. That's why I prefer it to wins.

Yeah I totally understand why people use it, just never been crazy about it. Cliff Lee two years ago is a great reason why W's suck as a stat. An interesting stat also that I've seen become popular on Yahoo that I love personally is K:BB ratio over K by itself and HLDS. You figure, there are 30 teams in baseball so there are only 3 closers. If you have 12-14 teams, some teams are going to have 3-4 closer and others 1-2 and it screws that whole cat for half the teams. HLDS gives value to relief pitchers as a whole. Makes guys like Robertson and Pestano hold the value they deserve.

the truth is that both Wins and QS are pretty bad, but once I came to peace with the fact that fantasy baseball just doesn't align to real world value, I stopped caring what categories we used. I just prefer to not use wacky categories like grand slams, triples, shutouts, etc

also, having a luck factor in there keeps it interesting. I'm ok with chance/luck being a component

Agreed, that being said....not sure if OP is taking recommendations for the ESPN fantasy league but CG is kind of a silly stat. Also having AVG, OBP, and TB seems like overkill.

There is nothing "wrong" with it per se; I think a snake draft works best for year one. I am not certain of the experience level of fantasy players that have expressed an interest in this league. So to accommodate players of all levels, a snake draft seems to fit the bill best.

Did anyone take the lead on running a Yahoo! league?

I am setting up a 12 team Roto Yahoo! league as we speak.

    For hitting, do people prefer:

Yahoo Default: C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, OF, OF, OF, UTIL, UTIL
    -or-
Classic Roto set up: C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, MIF, CIF, OF, OF, OF, OF, OF, UTIL

Not too picky on the setup, but I'll play if you set this up..

I'd be interested in a roto auction... I'm in too many H2H leagues already. Definitely the deeper rosters.

I feel like CG and TBs are bad stats, nobody wants to draft anyone having to keep in mind complete games and if you stack up on HR hitters you will take TB every week. From my experience TB and HR typically go hand in hand. Same also goes for wins and quality starts not sure if I've ever seen both used it's usually one or the other same with average and OBP.
