So I live in Southern California and as my username says, I'm really new to craft beers and am looking for some good beers to try. Thus far I've had Sculpin IPA, and Blue Fin IPA from Ballast Point Brewing company, Velvet Merlin from Firestone Brewing company, and Linen's Lemon Berry Shandy from Linenkugel brewing company. They don't have to be California brewers I'm just looking for some good beers that aren't hard to get a hold of in southern cali.

You need to hit up some local watering holes, I would recommend Noble ale works, bottle logic and bootleggers to name a few, they all have excellent IPAs etc... Good luck !!

Gotta try Brews from Stone, Russian River, Bear Republic, Rogue, Lagunitas, And Oskar Bllues. Most of these brews are available if you can find a decent liquor store

What I did when I first started is I followed the forum of post a pic of your latest haul to see what every one likes to buy and is trending at the time, and I frequently check the top beers lists to give me a perspective on what to look for next time I go to buy beer, also like other BA's have said go to local breweries, try what they have to offer and find what styles you like
Just explore everything that this site has to offer you as well, I've learned a lot from this site and I'm sure you will too

OP, go to maps.google.com and type in your address. Then do a "search nearby" and type in "breweries" and you will get a list of all breweries within vicinity of you, or as far away from you as you like. Start there so that you can try most things fresh. As you could hit some snags along the way with bottle shops and their freshness issues.
    Cheers

Go to your local Whole Foods and they'll likely have a section for offerings from nearby breweries. Also, a lot of Southern California bars, restaurants and brewpubs will be sure to point out beers from the area on their menus. Having already checked out Sculpin, you're off to a nice start.

SoCal is huge. Which part of SC are you in? OC? LA? IE? Start hitting up some of the local brewery's and see if you like their beers. Beachwood in LB is a good start. Noble Ale has been killing it lately. El Segundo Brewing Co and Smog City in the LAX area and Torrance area. You got Hanger 24 and Ritual out in the IE area. Start off with some local beers and work your way outward.
