So it is more the opportunity to try/share something that you would otherwise not be able to, and that is just the admission price for the ride. I guess it makes sense, especially for a tasting group, but man I dont know if I could do it. Thank you for the insight.

absolutely. my feeling is that bcbvs, which " vanished " quickly, was the start of the trend when people realized they had-to/could bank releases for future trade bait.

i noticed, in the early days of the beatification and black note craze, that cbs, bcbvs, king henry, and rare suddenly emerged out of hiding. i'd wager a lot of people are holding on to bottles as trade bait than drinking, couched in the pretense of, " well, it's delicious so i'm holding on to it for aging, and it would take a lot for me to part with it. "

similarly, beatification batch 5 will also be plentiful in 3 years (compared to how plentiful beatification b3 was in 2011). people are banking it. the writing is on the wall.

For me, yes. I love sharing beer. Sure, I open lots of cool beers without my tasting group, but what fun is it to open a BA DL without others to share in the experience not to mention the others you share with will likely bring something, so you are trading for something cool to share.

Agreed. The sad part is how many beers will just rot away and get opened past their prime due to this type of thinking.

you'd never know it, though. it seems that the vast majority of ba's think that beers always improve with age. and given what some have to give up to taste these rarities, i don't expect anyone to claim that they're over the hill.

in some ways i relate to the ebay argument in the other thread. removing beers from the drinking market just to bank them for future trades and/or sales is pretty aggravating when you consider that some just want to drink them.

opened the 12 Cognac Muerte on friday, was phenomenal. Had a great chile flavor, was very complex, and drank incredibly smooth. I will attempt to get another one. We also opened a Rare and KH, had those two kind of side by side to compare. I love all 3, but the Muerte was by far the best beer we had that night.

It's goofy how there are cycles of certain bottles suddenly reappearing once a beer from the other Coast or Midwest is released and highly sought after. This is why people shouldn't be so stingy!
