Well, that's sure not ratio on a national scale - closer to 3 sixpacks of craft sold for every suitcase of Bud.

    2012
    Budweiser - 16,800,000 barrels
    Craft Beer - 13,235,917 barrels

Ok, throw some bud light in there for good measure. I was implying BMC, not trying to split hairs with you

Walmart and Target around me are oddly usually more expensive for craft ($9.99 vs $8.99 for Sierra 6 packs for example) than regular grocery stores and even most dedicated bottle shops.

But why would BMC products be any more standardized to a local economy than any microbrew? Why not state the price of a Sierra Nevada 6-pack? Or a gallon of milk? Not that i think that's what we should do, but I don't see how it is any different and I don't see what information you gain from it. If someone tells you a 6-pack of Sucks is $9, then its $9. We all use the same money in America.

Taxes, freight, retailer mark-up, location relative to "said" brewery, supply, demand, distribution footprints, angle of the sun and season, piece of cake.

It's an adjustment for cost of living. You can pick a variety of products to establish a standard. It's about finding out the ratio between your item A, my item A, and the beer we're discussing. It's just a Consumer Price Index concerned with beer.

The only bottle shop close to me is 20 miles north and over 90% of his business is BMC. Without it, his business would fail. Found a shop 40 miles from me that has a nicer selection, but also sells BMC. I'm sure it also keeps them in business.

Anheuser-Busch, Miller, and Coors are all listed under Kegs.

I simply don't give a shit about all this whining and where a beer might cost less, BMC vs craft, profit margins, and who is to blame. I have seen so many threads about this general subject and everybody is regurgitating the same ideas over and over and over and over ad nauseum. Stop complaining. The price is the price for whatever beer you are talking about wherever you are, and no amount of discussion here is going to change that. Buy what you like and can afford. If you can't spend the extra two bucks to get a better or another beer then I really don't care. Your complaining will not cause your beer to reduce in price just for you. Deal. Get a second job to afford your tastes. All beer will never be as cheap as BMC. Again-deal.

What I enjoy most is "old school" taverns that have expanded their bottle selections to include [for a recent example] Dogfish Head India Brown and they charge a prepostorus .50 more than the BMC offerings. Tee Hee...and everyone else is laughing at me?

The reason they jump down the guys throat is because it makes them feel better...superiority at its weakest...

His concept was just...a little long winded but sound...even my 6 year old grandson could understand it. Yes, there are many variables...convenient store pricing verses bottle shops and grocery stores. That said it really isn't that hard to follow...usually the walmarts of the world are cheapest followed by bottle shops and then convenient stores being most expensive. Apply the variables and you really do have a relatively sound gage.

I also think it is funny when the beer snobs say they have no idea what the going prices of BMC our...really? Isn't that part of being involved with the beer culture that you so proudly spew? I know their pricing because I like to be informed...one person said they don't even get near them...again, really, try looking to the left or right of where you are standing.

The idea and question was interesting and valid...many of the answers where nothing more than glorified elitisms.

So what are we going to do when we crown the (relatively) cheapest place in the country to buy our precious?

While I get the OP's point as it relates to the discussion of price, I don't understand having the price discussion at all.

What one person is willing to pay, or not, for beer is none of my business and I couldn't care less if he/she got it cheaper than I did.

I drink for the taste and I can't taste a price tag. I find the discussion of what a beer tastes like and it's quality much more interesting than what the cost was. Mostly because the only constant, regardless of cost in your locale SHOULD be a consistent taste profile. It should be the one thing we all can discuss because it SHOULD be the same, doesn't matter if the beer was bought in WI or MI. When it isn't - that's the discussion I enjoy the most.

So, while I can get a 4 pack of Buffalo Sweat for 8.99 at one store in town or 6.99 at another (real example) - is doesn't really matter to some guy 4 states over - what he's interested in is "How tasty is it?" and it's damned good IMO/IME.
