Heck, at least their blog states that there are new beers and BA beers to come this year, excited for that.

I didn't right off CW, just Peruvian Morning. While i understand the process of brewing bear is sensitive to environments, 3 years in a row must mean something, especially if it's happening to the same beer.

None of us are normal
i can cope with things like this, but again. 3 years in a row and same bear? on the contrary, i'd expect any normal person would wait or avoid this beer and make sure the product is %100 finished.

while i know you're not talking to me specifically since i'm not writing off CW, other folks may not have as much patience. /2 cents

Is there any specific reasons for NOT pasteurizing the beer? Honestly just curious as I don't know much about this aspect of the process. Does pasteurization tend to affect flavour, etc. CW's blog specifically mentions they'd prefer to not make it rather than "compromise" the beer by pasteurizing it so I'm curious as to what that means exactly.

Given that its a beer with coffee, does the finished product really need to have yeast in the bottle? Assuming of course that they can carbonate the bottles in other ways.

From what they said in the blog, there is a possibility that another batch of Peruvian Morning will be shipped out. Cheers to that!
Could it perhaps be that Central Waters upholds a higher quality product than other breweries? Directly from the brewery, "This beer, while still tasting pretty good as of now, will likely sour over the next number of months." So the entire stock of Peruvian Morning is being recalled based on the beer taking an unexpected flavor profile in the future. By that logic, a two month Miller Lite is infected and Miller should perform a recall of its product.
I have had many beers that quite frankly taste like garbage water while others perceive the same beer as excellent. Maybe other breweries just don't have the same quality control that Central Waters believes in.

Wasn't 2011 the first infected ones? That would make 4....

thats some pretty serious homerism right there. i love central waters but they clearly have a problem. you have obviously never had an infected peruvian morning. it tastes like cat piss covered coffee beans.

the PM ive had so far this year has been great but you can bet ill drink it all pretty soon to avoid what ive tasted in the past.

Glad I wasn't taking a sip of my beer when I read that.

The vitriol and creative slagging going on here is amazing. I've had more Peruvian Morning than (wild but probably not that inaccurate guess) probably 90% of the people in this thread, including at least a half dozen cases from the previous two "infected" years, and I've never tasted anything like what some of you are describing.

But hey, maybe I was just astoundingly lucky. :astonished:

Pasteurizing is literally heating the product to a relatively high temperature and holding it at that temperature for a specific period of time (e.g. 140F for ten minutes), so some change in the flavor is inevitable.

Oh yeah. It does make sense that they wouldn't even consider doing this. Might have to scrap the whole Peruvian Morning beer, which is really too bad.

Would pasteurizing the coffee do anything to the coffee flavor? I'm no barista but I know that bacteria can grow in low alcohol beer and not as much if at all in high alcohol beer. Since the BBS and BBBW have a higher alcohol content, bacteria can not thrive, and therefore they don't see as many problems with these beers. If they pasteurized the coffee and increased the abv in their base beer it could fix their problems.

I see you're in Wisconsin - the Wisconsin batches didn't seem to have the infection problems least year, it was the batches shipped to other states. If you bought PM in Wisconsin last year you would get the good PM. Much of the beer this year probably still tastes fine. There probably are a lot of people like you who never ran into a bad batch, but it's not astounding luck, it's geographic location and batch variation.

It looks like you're trying to make an argument that becasue you've never tasted what people are describing, it must not exist.

This. I say axe PM, create a whole new coffee beer with a new process and a new name.

I think its more like you have a girlfriend you love, who you forgave after cheating on you once, but now that she's done it every year you start to feel like an idiot and start to question hers and your own judgement. But you're right, its one beer out of a very good arsenal and since it barely landed in Illinois, I've only been burned twice by what we'll call the 'amanda' of beers (Amanda sounds like a gal that would cheat on you annually).

I, as a potential customer, am not writing CW per se, I'll just be more hesitant to purchase their beers in the future. It seems like PM has had consistent quality issues over the past three seasons and there is no way anyone can say that this hasn't damaged the brand equity further.

Yeah, at this point name recognition is definitely not going to have a positive impact on any future PM sales. Brew a 11-12% base stout like Space Ghost but without the peppers, age in barrels and add pasteurized coffee before bottling (just copy whatever Goose Island does!). New name, keep it in 12oz bottles, call it a day.
