okay, so I know Three Floyds chooses not to date their bottles. I traded for a bottle of Dreadnaught purchased at the brewery during Dark Lord Day on 4/28, and I just drank it, and while not horrible, it had definately fallen off a bit. I heard that bottles purchased at the Brewery could be three weeks old...in my opinion, fading at that point.
I received a bottle in the fall of 2010 purchased at a bottle shop in Chicago that was probably the most intense and insane IPA experience I've ever had. I literally shuddered at the scent. Why can't I seem to duplicate that?
Three Floyds, I know you sell out of everything and can't keep up with demand, but please find a way to date your bottles. You create amazing product. Please find a way to accomplish this task that WILL become a requirement at some point. You'll be ahead of the game as far as that is concerned at that point, as you are with the quality of your output at this point.
    Just my 2 cents.
    Thanks for listening.

Suggestion to your problem, Blackheart is fresh......get one....or 10. It is also amazing.

I have to disagree. I've drank a lot of Dreadnaught, and I've not seen a drop-off after three weeks. Can't say I've ever been disappointed in a bottle whether purchased at the brewpub (which is most often the case) or in a local bottle shop. It moves pretty darn fast on the shelves.

IMO, 3 Floyds doesn't really need to invest in dating their bottles. Why it would be great to know when Dreadnaught or Zombie Dust was brewed, their beer flies off the shelf so fast in the Chicago, that dating wouldn't really improve anything.

A good bet to buy fresh Dreadnaught is at places such as Binny's or Whole Foods where 3 Floyds beers sell out very quickly. And three week old Dreadnaught falling off? Dunno about that...it aint Pliny

I would go as far as saying that blackheart is even better...although both are amazing.

Love Blackheart as well, but they are two completely different brews. Dread is an Imperial IPA and Blackheart is an English IPA. Apples to oranges really, in my opinion.

Yes, I know they are different styles, but I feel that Blackheart is better (within its style) than Dreadnaught.

I agree regarding Blackheart, the accent of oak really is a nice touch. As far as Dread, in my opinion, it's up there with Pliny and Heady Topper as far as top tier DIPA's and judging from the ratings it seems to be a majority opinion.

If you're an IPA fan, your palate has probably changed a lot since fall of 2010.

Honestly, I think this is it.

I doubt you're coming across particularly old Dreadnaught often, and I also doubt anyone can taste the difference between 1, 2, and 3 week old Dreadnaught.

And I had one today, reaffirming it as my favorite DIPA. Immaterial, but yummy.

Honestly, Live A Rich Life is better than both of them

Maybe you should upgrade to Panzer... Just throwing that out there. Or skip them both entirely and drink Zombie Dust exclusively.

I'll take your suggestion when I can get it off the shelf and not have to drive a few hours to get Zombie Dust!

It's starting to hit shelves more regularly. I think *a bit* of the hype is wearing off. All in due time. Ask some of your local shops. You never know who can get it in.

I believe that, for some reason, Dreadnaught tastes exponentially better on draft than from the bottle. IMO, the same goes for Two Hearted. And Pliny. You haven't experienced any of those until you've had them on draft.

I haven't had Shark Pants (AKA - Live A Rich Life) from the bottle, but I imagine it is the same story.

EDIT - I was actually told at RR that they don't filter the kegs, yet the filter the bottles.

If you buy any FFF at any Binny's it has been on the shelf for less than a week or two. And, if 3 weeks isn't fresh enough OP, brew your own damn beer and drink it straight from the carboy! Any dipa within a month is very fresh, I would even go 2 months. Now apa or ipa I woul want to drink within a month.

I agree big-time. My first bottle of Dreadnaught was sweet as hell, I had in a "IPA night" of sorts with a friend, after a Short's Freedom of '78 and an SN Hoptimum, and we both liked it the least of the three. I want one mega-fresh! Cheated!

Thats a tough one for me, but Live A Rich Life is fantastic no doubt.
