FYI: Long Island BAs...

Good call. I believe it is 17 taps in total, but they are looking to expand in the future. Currently, they are looking for suggestions for future beers to purchase. I hope that unlike other bars (the 40 other bars in LB with the exception of Swingbellies), they rotate their offerings more often. So many bars around here stay with the same stuff for months on end. Pizza and short ribs are good too.

Stop snitching on these stores on forums unless they are over charging/price gouging and you want to call them out. They are trying to provide something special for those who want it. Direct message some people you know.

IMO he wasn't referring to your OP which was informative to most of us. I think it was for the dude who mentioned the HT asking price.

 

If you see it on my shelves, it's okay to talk about. I do everything by the book. If I bring in something "sketchy" I share it with people who I think would like it by watching what they buy, not by putting it out there.. I'm watching all of these other guys take crazy risks just to "one up" each other. I've been in this game too long to play "Look what I got!" with my liquor license and the fines that can come down. I'm confident that my store merits a visit by any beer geek on any day of the week without bringing in stuff that can get me in trouble. As far as Shoreline, his JA and GL is legit too, as he was added to my delivery to make it a more worthwhile trip for the guy making the delivery.
As for snitching, you can't snitch on someone that isn't doing anything wrong, it's only snitching if someone is running an end around the law to stroke his ego, and how can the customer have that expectation? Especially if they post it on a social media site.

 

Is Great Lakes distributed to Long Island, or is there something else that allows it to be sold here? I know there has been brands where the retailer is the defacto distributor (I think Avery worked this way for a while). Just from a curiosity standpoint what does the state allow\not allow with beer that has no distributor?

 

Great Lakes has distro in NY, but not L.I. And yes, this is similar to the Avery beginnings, but this is not truly being distributed. It is a friend who offered to deliver to me. It's all legal, tax wise and otherwise. You cannot cross state lines, as every state has it's own unique laws, taxes, and regulations. In other words, if it's been approved by the state, it can go into another region as long as invoicing, tax numbers, and the like are done correctly. I do not know of any plans as of now for GL to be brought to L.I. I will have it semi-regularly though.

 

So what's your thought on Shoreline pimping Heady Topper for $12 dollars a can? Aside from the greed, would you describe that as wrong?

 

Let's just say I got them to people at $6.00. I'm not saying anything is wrong. I've seen $8.99 to $13.49. It's a capitalist society. I just don't believe in .... well, I'll leave it at that.

 

I don't see anything wrong with their pricing. Their taking a risk selling it and their picking it up. You could always drive up to northern vt and pick some up yourself if the price bothers you that much.
