Most lists that I see are completely ridiculous. As soon as I saw Fat Tire I thought where's Anchor Steam and bigger than shit there it was. My list would include Dark Lord, Dreadnaught, Zombie Dust, Founders Double Trouble, and Myrcenary.

Show me any type of list like this or ranking that's better than this one.

Never surprised to see Sam Adam's (anywhere)

Kind of a weird list, I assume HT isn't on it because it's secluded in NE?

How is Lagunitas IPA ahead of KBS?

    Dismissed IMO.

I just meant for all those deep, rich beers on that list then light in the pants Sam shows up. I understand this was a nation wide survey so of course it's gonna pop up, put the Pilsner, really?

This isn't a beer geek list obviously. Hipster Doofuss' love Fat Tire, it's the beer to drink while looking cooler than your buddies drinking Bud, or Bud Light.

I don't buy a lot of Fat Tire, but when I do occasionally order one I always note what a truly excellant beer it is. It may not be as extreme, sexy or rare as others, but it is a well made amber with a distinct flavor. And It's always flawless.

Any list that has Ranger as a Top Ten IPA is invalid. This is just a fact of life.

Not even on a list of Colorado IPAs

Zombie Dust??? Grains of salt being taken with this list, for all the aforementioned reasons.

Got some really good ones in there. But as a west coaster, I must admit it seems a bit heavy on the western US offerings. I like many of them, but I'm trading to the midwest & east to get some amazing stuff far east of my west coast.

A lot of anomalies on this list for me. KBS and FBS being that low relative to the preceeding beers and Sam Adam's Boston Lager's inclusion. Put some salt on the rim of this one.

The list is perfect based on its metrics. We can even say the list is perfect based on what it intended to measure. Dismissing or questioning the list is plain silly. Question the metrics used is you want but the results are indisputable.

Until there is a way to actually quantify the quality of a beer there is no way to create a definitive list of the "best" beers. Arguing over a list gets us nowhere.

Sure. Also: Ranger? Every other IPA is as good or better. You could do as we'll by taking a photo of the cooler at Meijer.

This list is more like a random selection of the top 250 beers in America. These rankings mean nothing- 90 Minute is the THIRD best beer in America? The Northeast is dreadfully under-represented. No Gandhi-bot? No Heady? No Kate the Great, one of the most highly-regarded beers in the world? Are the readers of this obscure homebrewers magazine unaware of these world-class brews? Sigh. Another useless list.

The only way to do effective "best of" lists is the way the bros do them here. They need to be focused, by style, popularity, whatever. Best beer lists, with no context or without controlling for variables like distribution, are useless.

Yea well, the Southeast isn't all that represented either, well not until SN and NB start bringing it.

well, people are talking about where Hop Stoopid is vs. Lagunitas IPA, but unless I've read it 2x and missed it both times---no Sucks! WTF?!? (j/k, riffing on being that guy, which, as a Sucks fanboy, I AM that guy)

Re SNPA, I believe there is something like a 120 page thread on perfecting a clone of it on northernbrewer.com and probably something similar on homebrewtalk.com. It was the second beer I tried to imitate (after Fuller's ESB) and it's unsurprising to me that a collection of home brewers have it high on their lists. Parenthetically I personally agree with the poster who perceivers a harshness to the bitterness in SNPA, despite the relatively low IBU level (to 2014 palates); there's something jarring about it when you revisit it after a long absence, like I do in the occasional airport or sports bar I might find myself in, with limited craft taps...

The list as a whole comprises, with some exceptions, beers you can find pretty easily without trading online and given the methodology that seems like a "no duh" type of insight, to me. So, to me-- take it FWIW.

I wasn't aware that the job of beer is to be deep and rich. It's good from time to time to remember that beer is a drink.Lighter beers offer greater enjoyment to many people, myself included , than do strong ones.

not disagreeing with your criticisms (well, except, see kzoobrew's posts--you're missing the point) but this isn't really "an obscure homebrewer's magazine".

sheesh, just looked at the dateline--this is an 2012 list we're arguing about. No wonder Sucks isn't on it.
