Was able to find 2 BA Jone's Dog on my quest to Chicago, amongst a few other Pipeworks bottles. Thanks!

Was just in the chicagoland area visiting family for the week coming from North Carolina.Had the opportunity to try a few of your beers. Coffee Abduction, nvu, barreled jones and unicorn's revenge. All fantastic. Keep up the good work guys, I'd put your beers up next to anything. Cheers

How often is Pipeworks glassware available? Sounds like it's pretty hard to come by.

I'm having an almost frustratingly hard time finding more of them. Beejay and Gerrit need to grease them wheels to get that shop opened up so I can buy some glassware...and a baseball cap...and a growler....and another growler...and refills after refills LOL

This is the first onion note from Amarillo's that I've ever heard. I'm not saying you are wrong but now I really want to try this beer. There are other hops in here too, citra? I think Gerrit mentioned it previously, it could be coming from those though. You don't get onion in citra beers (within the last 1.5yrs)?

I've never heard of Amarillo described as onion either. When I think onion I tend to look more towards a hop like Summit which can drift more towards a onion or garlic aroma imo. I'm a huge fan of Amarillo as it can be a great dual purpose hop, intensely fruity with citrus, melon, and stone fruit. Not a damn thing wrong with this beer imo...

Oh yeah, summit is a total onion bomb to me if it isn't used sparingly. Maybe onion was the wrong descriptor for amarillo. Musk might be a better term.

I don't get onion from citra hops though I do occasionally get cat pee.

I've gotten cat pee from Sucks, not from PWs offerings.

on another note, just picked up my second Weirdo offering from PWs! Loved Beejay's weirdo ale last year, can't wait to try Gerrit's weirdo stout now.

Summit is the classic example of onion/garlic/desiel however many hops high in oil content can result in these notes like citra, nelson, mosaic, galaxy, apollo and probably many others. This is the main downfall to these really flashy hops. A good fresh crop can be magic but that seems more rare lately.

There are specific hop compounds that produce the aroma and flavor. 4MMP is the compound that produces the black currant type flavor that is prevalent in many U.S. hops. Can't remember the one that produces the garlic/onion flavors.

Amarillo is most associated with a citrus/orange flavor though you can get many others from it. And as mentioned above, some people are more sensitive to various compounds while others can't even detect them which is why you and i might taste two different things when drinking the exact same beer.

If you check the hop bills on PW website, the featured hop ninja series use 3 or more hop varieties. Unfortunately, the fucking amarillo one has not been updated...

Sorachi Ace is at least one hop that tastes like STRAIGHT ONIONS.

It was in "something hoppy this way comes" (pw) as well as Gubna. "something hoppy this way comes" was the WORST PW beer i ever tasted. It was also like the 1st or 2nd pw beer I tasted, and as a result I initially thought quite bad of the brewery. But I've tasted many of their brews since then and have not had another experience like that. (maybe theres a reason it hasnt been brewed again in so long?)

DMS is from bacterial infection or poorly modified malts. It is a vegetable-like flavor but not responsible for the onion-garlic notes from certain hops.

    I think you mean DMTS,
    dimethyl trisulfide

Yup. It's out there. I was at a liquor store out in the burbs around noon today and an employee there said to me, "hey, I see you looking at the local beers. Just wanted to let you know that we JUST got these in." He whipped out Gerrit's Wierdo and Continental.

I stopped by a particular spot to grab another Amarillo because I knew they'd still have bottles of the first batch and to my surprise were bottle of the latest batch AND The Continental and more of the Wonder Horned Flying Fresno thing. #winning
