Yes, there is already a thread for just the Out of the Park Pizza Event (http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/goose-island-at-out-of-the-park-pizza.158788/), but there is a lot more going on throughout the week. Here is an email I got.
Any idea of the taplist for the Provisions/ Haven event? Props? Vanilla? Something mimicking the Out of the Park GI tap takeover?
For anyone that went to the Iron Press event last night, how big were pours and what were prices like?
I did a flight of BCBS, BCBBW, Backyard, Backyard. 3 oz pours each for a total of $12. They were sadly out of cherry rye by the time I got there. https://www.facebook.com/events/215117605362728/ For those w/out FB:
They were doing something like 6 to 7 oz pours as well depending on the ABV. I got there just before 8 ish and went straight after class, otherwise I would've shown up earlier.
It was a bit of a clusterfuck on what they were or were not doing. Some people were able to get flights of the bc stuff. Others were not. If you didnt get it in a flight it was a 5ish oz pour for 6 bucks. Cherry rye lasted about an hour. They had 1 case. All in all it was a cool event. Glad thwy had it.
hollingshead's was pretty packed...i got there about 420 and sat at the bar. they took my order a little bit before 5 and right away i was drinking King Henry, 2011 BCBCS, and 2013 BCBCS.
Ok so I was at Hollinghead for the GI thing. Having never tried King Henry before as well as how incredible folks were making it out to be all these years, I'll have to admit it didn't meet my expectations. Now let me first say that I think it's delicious but hearing things like "King Henry is the best barleywine ever made" or "it blows every other barleywine out of the water," I thought it would be earth-shattering when, to me, it exists in the same plane as all the other top barrel aged barleywines I've tried (MOAS, Sucaba, Arctic Devil, CW, Kuhnhenn) My question is, does it taste worse now than when it did fresh?
It fell off VERY fast. A lot of the reviews were riding the coattails of a beer that was amazing fresh, and simply "top-tier" shortly after.
