No one is forcing you to buy their beer and you think it is mediocre so why do you even care this much? Obviously their business model is working and allowed them to increase production to their small distribution footprint. Paying $11 for a sixer of Zombie Dust is an amazing deal. Sounds like you just have a personal problem with FFF.

As an acquaintance of Barnaby, a 3 Floyds brewer, (fellow Rugby fan + Arsenal FC supporter), this is outstanding news! So glad to hear that business is booming and they will be able to meet more of the needs of the 3 Floyds Army, especially in Chicago. No offense to Robert the Bruce Scottish Ale (he is a direct ancestor of mine), but that is my LEAST favorite 3 Floyds offering and also the only beer I ever see available to buy.

    cheers!

Almost worth the two hour drive. (I've noticed it tends to go on sale for $9 frequently at my local Whole Foods too.)

    No, I didn't. I spoke with a very reputable source & that's where I got my information.

So they're going to distribute it directly into the lake? How can an IL distributor go farther east?

No....why in the world would it matter if a company grows slowly with their own cash, or gets bank financing? We arent talking about government bailouts here, bank loans are repaid....with interest. I certainly hope people dont think less of a brewery for growing via traditional financing. If anything, the fact that a brewery can obtain a bank loan says a lot about their ability to responsibly run their business...

Also, with interest rates being at such historical lows, sometimes it's cheaper for a business to finance a big capital project than it is to use cash reserves.

If you are not super excited about this news, do us all a favor and get your head examined. Take your personal issues out of the mix and be happy more world class beer will be available. I can't stand the d-bag attitude of those guys e

Well, if the bottling line gets moved to a new building, there's going to be more room for tanks...I'm assuming that means extra brewing capacity, but I guess people closer to FFF would know if they're already running shifts around the clock and maxing out their capacity from a brewing (not tanks) perspective.

Who really cares how they get the money to expand. If you think about it, it's technically a loan whether it comes from an owner, investors, or a bank. Nobody is going to give them money without something in return. Just be happy they are expanding which means they'll be able to produce more beer.

I will say their new distribution has put FFF more places and more often than their last distributor. I'm not in love with the price increase however. It's extremely hard to buy $12.99-13.99 Alpha King when I can get $8.99-10.99 Anti-Hero. I'll do it for ZD when I see it, but it has pretty much put a stop to me purchasing their other 6-packs.

Coldy, I think I tried to get that across, that I wasn't trying to say one was better than the other. But I only got the idea that there was a difference from a tour I took at Three Floyds, Barnaby said something along the lines that because they didn't take a bank loan out to expand, they weren't feeling the pressure of paying off interest on those loans. (I think the fluctuating cost of the materials to make beer is stressful enough) I don't think it's wrong for a company to grow with bank financing, I was only trying to articulate that there is a different headspace that would exist in a company using their own cash to grow. And not that it's better, I only think it's a slower and more organic way to grow, and the slower growing eliminates the risk of taking out a bank loan and expanding beyond what the demand is for your beer. I don't like that Three floyds is hard to find, but I do think it's a lesson that not everything that people like or want suddenly gets to be mass-produced and available everywhere, just because many other products in our lives are that way. But I know many people take issue with Three Floyds due to the hype and demand for their beer, people post in this thread that don't even like three Floyds because of their opinion about the beer, or their dislike of the hype, or they take issue with their business practices, or some other reason. I'm really interested they've upgraded their facilities, and very curious to see what they do next, and if the chicago brewpub ever becomes a reality. There's a thread I should start, guess where you think the chicago brewpub for Three Floyds will be built.
