Brewed in Ireland for centuries by Irishmen, noted for brewing one of two styles to orginate in Ireland. Yeah, it is pretty damn Irish.

Guinness was brewed from the outset by a London family (the Pursers , who were involved for a very long time), Guinness merely owned the business.Porter and Stout are not Irish styles , even the dry variety.
I'll never forgive Guinness for inventing that crime against humanity, nitro dispense.

By the way I saw some stuff labelled "Guinness mid strength"..........they consider mid strength to be 2.8%.

Today shouldn't be a 24 hour commercial for Guinness either.

Which was in Ireland, no? So the fact that the brewers were from England matters?
Would dogfish head be considered a Belgian beer because their head brewer (for a short period of time) was from Belgium?

Read Amber, Gold and Black and you know where ALL of most of the non German and non Belgian styles could from. with a few tiny exceptions. Still great read, and its on Kindle now..:grinning:

yea its history, but its the history of BEER.

Everyone know you have to be eating in Real Irish pub and listening to REAL Irish music to fully enjoy 4 or 5 pints of Ginny.:stuck_out_tongue::slight_smile::slight_smile::slight_smile::slight_smile:

Last pint I had not the export version was in Dublin.

I'm going to hand my Bud Light-drinking shop manager a bottle of Guinness Extra Stout today and tell him it's the equivalent of his beer… and wait for the look on his face. :grinning:

Thanks for that information. I downloaded it about five seconds after reading your post. Living out in East Asia it's a ballache to have my parents send stuff out to me all the time.

The Pursers were involved with Guinness for a very long time over several generations of the family, in fact from the very first Porter brewed through most of the 19th century.
Is a Toyota built in the US an American car? Technically perhaps but many people would think of it as more Japanese.

There's no Heinken UK brewery in Northern Ireland - their UK brewing facilities are in Manchester, Tadcaster and Edinburgh.

There's still Smithwick's, O'Hara's, Kilkenny and Tennet's. Used to have a Beamish every now and then, too. There's Murphy's stout (which is pretty damn good, as others have already pointed out) and the Murphy's Red, too.

Great example of an American "Irish" stout here, if you're looking for a local Guinness replacement

A better analogy would be if a Toyota plant in Japan was run by an American, would it make it an American car? No, not at all.

So guinness is about as irish as 90% of the dipshits drinking guiness all day yesterday?

The only thing a guinness is good for is making chili anyway.

Maybe now, or around the rest of the country... but when my wife and I vacationed in Dublin, in 2007, it was all Guinness all the time, everywhere we looked... And maybe a fair amount of Carlsberg.

I had never seen or imagined the number of Women drinking Guinness, pint in and pint out. It was an unreal sight to see it at every Pub we went to, and we went to a lot!!
