My wife and I are going to be up in Sacramento this coming weekend. Beer will not be our central focus, but if we get some time I'd love to grab a pint at a local brewery or Beer bar, and if we are in close proximity to a bottle shop, look for something to take home. Any advice would be appreciated.

Are you going to have transportation? Be limited to a certain area?

Depending on where you'll be at, you can hit up multiple places. Here's my recommendations:

In East Sac, you can go to Device Brewing and then hit up Capitol Beer and Tap Room for more stuff and grab bottles. New Glory is around the corner from Device.

Track 7 is the most popular brewery in town and would give you the most Sacramento experience. Most of their year round beer can be purchased in bottles. Bike Dog in West Sacramento is really good too. Both of these could be visited in an afternoon.

If you can drive, Berryessa Brewing is an awesome spot that is worth the drive. You can stop in Davis on the way back and hit up The Davis Beer Shoppe for bottles. They usually have a good draft list too.

Final Gravity has an awesome selection on draft and in bottles. Sam Hornes and Boneshaker are easy to get to from their as well.

Mraz Brewing, Auburn Alehouse, and Knee Deep Brewing will require some driving to get too. It's easy to get Auburn and Knee Deep bottles in town so I'd save time and grab some at a shop and hit up another place unless you had them on your list to visit.

Thanks, I will have a car so I will try to hit up as much as I can as time allows. Is it worth the time to go to Knee Deep to get something special or are most of the good stuff bottled?

I'd say no. They don't really have anything at the brewery that isn't bottled except for their English Pale Ale. The location is a very large warehouse with the small section marked off to drink with a few tables.

If you are going to drive, go to Berryessa. Probably the best brewery in the region. It's going to be a very nice weekend (80 degrees) and their outdoor seating is awesome. Get the Double Tap, Trendy Triple, or Separation Anxiety it it's on tap. I'd start there and then come back to the city in the evening. Gonna be great patio weather.

I keep hearing lots of people recommend Berryessa.I was wondering why although I have tried their IPA.When I tried it again at Dad's during Beer Week I realized why.Nice all around aroma.and taste at 8.5.It's just a bit of a hike to get out there.

I'll put in a good word for Bike Dog. I visited there for the first time Friday night. Very hip place, they have those fancy food trucks that park outside. Unabashedly West Coast-style ales. I got 2 growler fills and they offered to put them in a cold room until I was ready to head out.

Thanks for the suggestion of Final Gravity and Boneshaker. We have been primarily in the Citrus Heights/Roseville area and really enjoyed both these places. We are re-locating to the area and I figure we will become regulars at both places. When we finally get settled we will explore more of the breweries, but it looks like craft beer has a nice foothold in the Sacto area.

BTW we are re-locating from SoCal and will have one last trip down to Alpine before we move up. I'll get as many bottles as I can for the next bottle share at Final Gravity.

Looking forward to you being around and meeting you at the Final Gravity Bottle Share on 4/6. Welcome to the area! I live a few miles away from both spots.

Not quite sure if we will be up here for the 4/6 bottle share. I spoke with Amy (?), one of the owners, and she said they were thinking about doing a monthly (or bi-monthly) bottle share on Sunday afternoons. I will certainly be at some of those when we get settled.

Got it, yes, Amy and Kyle (theconductor). It will be a monthly - the first Sunday of each month is the plan currently.

It looks like that first Sunday of April will be our move in day so I don't think we will make it (since we are coming up from So Cal) but we will be there soon and I will Private Message you when we get there.

i can't seem to edit my previous post, so I'll just say in another post: I can make it to Bike Dog on Friday nights just before close occasionally. Love their beers.
