Does anyone have any suggestions on where to buy glassware, any quality sellers ? which sellers to avoid?
I know this is a bit of a hot topic but in all seriousness my favorite glass is a tulip pint (#2 in the pic) I got for a dollar at Wal Mart. I also have a large nonic pint for pounders or growlers (or if I just feel like it - not shown below but it's a pint glass with the "bulge" around the top). And I have 2 pilsner flutes (#1 in the pic) that I use occasionally... honestly, it depends more on my mood than what I'm drinking... I have noticed no real difference in taste.
You can get some stemless snifters from Dollar Tree that are pretty damn decent. I like em because I can break em, give em away, leave em places, etc., and just go pick up more.
My wife picked me up the Libby's 6 pack of craft beer glass set, and I know a bunch of other have posted that they have the set, couldn't say how many use it. Its 20 bucks and I use the 3rd and 6th glasses constantly.
Snifters are about as all-purpose as you can get for good beer glasses. I got mine at Crate & Barrel. I picked up some Weizen glasses too because they're gorgeous and a good Hefe enjoyed from one is an otherworldly experience. Tekus are awesome too, if you can find them.
I drink pretty much everything out of a snifter. If I want to warm the beer up I cup the bowl, if I want to keep it cool I pinch it from the base. Works well for me.
My best suggestion is to keep your friends away from the glasses you really like or you and your favorite glasses will soon be parted.
Seriously. We have a Goodwill and a package store that has a decent beer selection (bought a Rodenbach Caractère Rouge there yesterday) in the same strip mall down here. Wifey goes to Goodwill while I go to the Package store and then I usually cruise over there to meet up before we bail out. I always check out the glassware. Last time I left with 4 Sweetwater 420 pint glasses for 99 cents a piece and 5 ridiculously awesome and sturdy rock glasses (for tastings or bourbon) that looked brand spanking new for 59 cents a piece. Goodwill for the win!
