Otley's Hop Angeles. A touch of American influence here - tasty.

Seriously good, IMHO better than Founders - must be the bottle conditioning

Tapped Leeds Normal Lager, brewed on site and very drinkable. Founders All Day IPA @ North Bar, think I prefer it in bottle.

Began the Stout and Porter Trail in Nottingham today. So many pubs are involved we just looked at one pocket, the so-called Canning Circus Circuit. First stop was the Sir John Borlase Warren which I hadn't visited since it was a Shipstone's pub.My choice was Abbeydale's Black Bishop, 4.2 % and very pleasant indeed. Should have been the Falcon next but it didn't open till 5 so we walked a few more paces to the Organ Grinder. I began with Buxton's Rednik Stout, 4.1% and simply gorgeous , full and smooth. Next up was Buxton's Dark Nights at 5% which was described as an American style one, but despite the extra strength was nowhere near as flavourful as the Rednik. Not by a mile. The Salem Porter from Bateman's was an old friend and then came Elland'sPorter at 6.5% , lovely stuff too but hardly any more flavourful than the Rednik.
Next to the Hand on Heart , from the street looks like any other pub but look behind the bar and the rest of the pub is carved into the rock going back a long way. The dark stuff this time was Amber Brewery's Abbey Stout at 6%.
Star of the visit was the Rednik which showed that extra strength does not equal more flavour or more enjoyment.

Marquis you would be proud of me. About 5 or 6 pints of Marstons Pedigree tonight, and on cask. It was so much better than the canned version, and miles better than the other cask beers even. Extremely good, easily a 4/5. The beer my dad had at his first wedding.

I am very proud of you. To sink six pints of Pedigree and still be able to post without making a typo deserves respect

I think it was 5 plus a pint of Arbor Blue Sky Drinking (a decent bitter) and another of Wye Valley Silver Lining (a pretty nice brown ale). Didn't feel too healthy at 5am though.

Also we always notice that milds are often ignored by pubs these days, but what about brown ales? Bottled Newcastle Brown is the only one I normally see.

Used to be Dog or Double Maxim up our way. Now there are a couple of local breweries doing brown in cask

Some things get stuck in my head wanting to try Zombie dust is one
the other is wanting to try a Texan Brown ale.

But I've always had a soft spot brown
anyone tried the Kernel Brown ale
taste reminds me a little of dry roasted peanuts

Used to see Brown Ale ( often a local or Whitbread) on the shelves in every pub. There was a cask brown at one of the pubs I visited yesterday but I was sticking to stouts/porters.

I think that could work quite well, use a bit of candy sugar, choc malt and you're laff'n.

Hmm a new line in 70s confectionery beers?

Then I propose a Spangles flavoured lambic.
