I have done a side by side of HT and DS. I went back and forth on which I preferred. With a gun to my head I guess I would take Heady. Did Heady vs Abner and again I went back and forth on which was better. Gun to my head I probably take Heady again. Point is they were all so phenomenal with some slight differences. I would also like to say Fuzzy baby ducks held its own with the heady as well.

    Heady
Something else (Haven't had Abner but not impressed with Society and Solitude 5)
Double Sunshine, wouldn't even be in my top 5 best ipas/dipas but this is Vermont only discussion.

Alpine Nelson better than all to me. Wormtown Be Hoppy is a legit heady clone tho and much easier to get.

I'll gladly take them off your hands. BM if you are serious. I've been dying to try Heady.

I tried Abner last night, and honestly I was underwhelmed. I don't think it's as good as Heady, and I don't think it's nearly as good as Pliny. I enjoyed the Double Citra I had on Wednesday night more as well.

Next time I hit Vermont (June?) I must get a hold of Double Sunshine.

My preference from HF in that category is Ephraim, better than Abner. never seem to find DS when I'm there, and HF Susan is tremendous as well.

I've had DS, no Topper nor Abner. But DS gave me a hop woody, real talk.

first reading the post, the same idea crossed my mind. Plug in double galaxy in place of Abner and DG takes all... or S&S 4 where DG meets Double Citra. Two best VT DIPA's IMO in the MOST COMPETITIVE DIPA STATE IN THE USA

i've never had double sunshine but i did have abner. i agree with whoever said heady is the rawest. which is why i like it. abner's kind of like a refined heady. but heady tastes like the race gas of IPAs. which is a good thing. makes me think of the guy on the can with hops shooting out of his head. that's what its like to drink heady.

I did a similar blind tasting when I was living in VT it was double sunshine, heady and S&S 4 and it was too close to call, I ended up picking Double sunshine first too. Also triple play owns..

    double sunshine easy winner.

heady vs abner... i like the malt element of abner better, the hops of heady better. flip a coin.

    mozart vs bach vs beethoven?

(that one a clear winner too, but 1 of the 3 is not like the others)

Living in Vermont and having somewhat regular access to all three...I still think Heady is the more complex tasting and with best mouthfeel of the three. Double Sunshine and Abner are less bitter, a bit less grapefruit and more tropical sweetness. They are all amazing beers...world class, but I don't hold the status of Heady against it. I have one frequently and remain wowed each time.

    mozart vs bach vs beethoven?
wellllll, mozart vs bach is debatable, but i'll throw my money in with mozart any time. that beethoven is linked with those 2 names so often is a travesty though. so no, i'm not schroeder. in fact, maybe the travesty i just described is directly traceable to that little bastard!

    ----

    edit: here's my literary version:

    melville vs milton vs joyce

i think if i'm unbiased, that one lines up directly with the mozart : bach : beethoven, since my beloved joyce (before and after "going off his coconut") is a hack compared to melville and milton, who are unreproachable literary giants.

maybe you can extend the metaphor further and add vivaldi and dostoyevsky as dark horse Real Winners. the beer analogue would be, oh i don't know, the best sierra nevada IPA? anchor humming or something?
