You like what you like. Who cares if someone hates you for it, their loss. I'm a huge fan of Gubna but I see people bash it all the time.

I've never had Mikkeller Black. I'll check it out. Although I think their beers are a bit overpriced for what you get. Currently reviewing a lot of the single hop series. Some good, some ok but all pretty pricey.

I would say Ten FIDY is the best, easy-to-find and best tasting stout you can get. It's a delicious beer.

I was thinking about Founders and Doris also. I would add Yeti and Mephistopheles.

For some reason I've always been iffy about trying stout from a can. Is it more or less the same thing as the bottle?

Yes, in fact a can is a superior package compared to a bottle. No air, no light, metal seal.

Do yourself a favor and try Ten Fidy. As far as I'm concerned the can makes little difference and it is a top notch stout.

On another note, I am really not a fan of the Old Rasputin suggestions here. In comparison I find it lacking body compared to many of the stouts listed here.

Old Rasputin, some people seem to be against it but my theory is that is just because it is so cheap and avaliable. Some times I wonder if beers like Old Raspy were harder to get if they would be regarded better. But thankefully it is so avaliable.

I really enjoy Old Rasputin but it is on the smaller end of the Imperial Stout category. It just does not deliver the same intensity and viscosity as some of my favorites.

My theory regarding Old Rasputin is that it is held in such high regards because it is so easy to find. I think the price and availability enhances the perception of the beer.

This is what I came to say, actually, but I don't know that it would qualify according to availability. Insanely thick and good.

I agree w/ Ten Fidy being thick as hell and really tasty, we don't get OB here in OH so I always forget about it but it's chewy. I think Old Rasputin deserves a spot w/ the better Imperial Stouts out there, but not a spot w/ the thickest..

Don't know what you have access to in New Zealand but I will put in for AleSmith Speedway.

Might not reach the realms of some of the Imperial stouts but give Lion Stout a try, affordable, 9% and robust enough to satisy your taste buds

I'd have to agree with kzoobrew on both points...Ten Fidy is super thick and chewy and not to be missed. Old Rasputin is nice but not as big bodied at all.

Hmm I guess I just like it a lot which is good for me because of the price and avaliability but to each his own my brother.

Hello. In keeping with evangelizing about BrewDog you have the Tokyo and Paradox series. From Avery you have the Czar and Mephistopheles, from Deschutes you have the Obsidian Stout and Abyss, from Great Divide you have all the flavors of Yeti. Now granted the Mephistopheles, Abyss and some Yeti's are not all together very thick, but I'd say they are thick enough to qualify and they are just delicious beers. But out of all those I'd still say though probably the thickest is Port Brewing's Old Viscosity.
