How do you pronounce Rochefort?

    I say "Roash-fort", but it is likely "Roash-for" when said correctly.

    While we're at it, is Orval pronounced "Or-vul" or "Or-vahl" ?

    Without a pronounced "t". Think Inspector Cleuseau.... Rosh forrr... from the back of the throat and sincere.

    I always thought it was row-sheh-fort.

    I don't emphasize the 'T' though.

    In French the "R" comes from the throat. Do you really want to pronounce the word completely correct in French?
    The word jalapeƱo is pronounced hal-a-PEE-no in English and ha-la-PAIN-yo in Spanish.
    My English guess would be ja-LAP-eno but WTF do I know?

    Or-vahl (French) -> hard rolling r almost Orh-vahl (miniature pause between parts)
    Or-vahl (Flemish)-> mellow soft spoken with the sound growing softer towards the end, h almost non-existant

    I grew up with a guy who had the last name and that's exactly how it was pronounced.
