We set up an IP swap last week so I brought a bunch of beer with me in my luggage but then he stopped replying to my convo (or maybe hasn't been on BA since)? Nonetheless, tomorrow is my last chance to meet up with him for our swap before I leave town on Thursday so trying to get ahold of him, if anyone knows him, please ping him and tell him to reply to the convo or call me or something...or get in touch with me and send me his info so I can get ahold of him. I have too much beer to fly back with so need to meet up with him.

At this point, looks like it won't happen. I can't call this a bad trader thread in the traditional sense of the meaning since I didn't lose any beer, but I would definitely call @Sleepwalker a sketchy trader and someone to trade with at your own risk if at all.

The facts - communication started last week, we worked out all of the details except the specific meeting place and time but seemed like we were in agreement to meet on Tuesday (yesterday) after normal business hours (he knew I was in town for only a few days). On Friday was the last time BA shows that he read the message which was his reply saying we would meet on Tuesday. I pinged him over the weekend to get his phone number for the meet up and never heard back. Since all signs pointed to a Tuesday meeting I went ahead and brought a bunch of beer in my luggage for him, but never heard back from him and no sign that he read my convo replies on BA (although that only means he didn't log onto the site and click on the convo).

So although not a "bad" trader, certainly someone you might think twice about swapping with...unless you like getting jerked around and having your time wasted. Going no show on an IP swap is bad enough but doing it to an out of stater who traveled with beer for you is another level of time wasting. If you are to trade with him, I would suggest having him ship first or for an IP swap make home come to you.

Sorry you went through this and thank you for posting. You are way too nice. No way I'd trade with this guy. He's a bad trader. "Not losing beer" on one end cannot be the sole factor in making the other end "not a bad trader". If a trader does something that you clearly want to never happen to you again or to another person, that is a bad trader. Your situation is exactly that.

Different ppl have different rules so I shared the facts so you can make up your mind. I would not trade with anyone who stood me up again and I would advise others not to as well, but everyone has a chance to redeem themselves, but as logic should rule...someone looking for a 2nd chance has to ship first or come to you for an ip to remove any risk of wasting time (IMO)

This sucks, beerpirates pulled the same shit on me when I brought a 12 shipper overseas for him on an IP in Brussels last year. Suddenly once I was over there, he didn't have his side of the agreed upon trade and wanted to sub in shelf loons for BVDL, Rare, BA Abraxas, and others. Under no circumstances would I advise anyone to trade with him.

At the end of the day I was out about $100 from all the shipping, let alone the opportunity costs associated with missing out on other lambic I could have brought back because of that clown. Not to mention the guy is notorious on here for trying to win trades.

That's nuts!!! I wondered how many other people he pulled the same thing on and got away with it because no one was warned? I don't think there a statute of limitation for outing bad traders. Your experience more than qualified.

actually, yes...he is still MIA and from the looks of it, @Sleepwalker still hasn't even clicked our conversation since his last post right before i left. i don't see a place to see if he is still active on the site or when his last sign on was, but perhaps life actually happened? either way, he is tagged in this thread so if he ever comes back to the site he'll be aware of the thread and have a chance to chime in if he wants.

how active someone is on the site is a good indicator for trading too. under normal circumstances i would've protected myself from this kind of thing by getting a phone number earlier on, but things were so harried for me leading up to the trip that we locked things down right before i left and were at the phase of collecting phone numbers and setting the meeting spot when he fell off the planet. i debated not bringing the beer with me since i didn't have a phone number, but wanted the tick bad enough that i chanced it. i also brought some brews to share with some locals with me and our bottle share got cut short due to unforeseen circumstances at the location so ended up with even more beer that i had to bring back home and as a result had to ship myself back a box defeating the purpose of IP trading when traveling. oh well. beer geek problems.
