Just curious...looking to get a bottle and don't want to pay retail. Happy to set up a trade from what I have, but am curious what others have given up for it. Appreciate your insight.
About $4$ in interesting, but not necessarily crazy rare, beer. There's lots of people who can get a Utopias of the shelf more or less any time. If they're nice, they might even cut you a break on $4$ because your shipping cost is going to be a lot higher.
Thanks! If I saw one in a retail shop I would probably just pick it up but they are hard to track down around here.
Unless you're willing to put up some limited beers for the trade, expect going $4$ as kscaldef said. If I can buy it close to me, I'd just buy it considering shipping cost, packing time, etc. Check out http://www.beermenus.com/beers/sam-adams-utopias-2013 (change location to your zip). Expect to pay $200 - $225 for one. Keep in mind that it should come with a code (on the hang tag, double check when you check the bottle) to get your free Utopias glass, but you need someone NOT in NJ to claim it for you since NJ is excluded (legal restrictions). Shipping is $11, but still less than $18 + $11 shipping if you were to buy one.
I would if I didn't already chugged it one go...hahaha J/K...7 Friends and I are splitting it. We ordered the Utopias glasses for the event as well and I cashed in the free glass code, that's how I knew about the process.
We are splitting the Utopias (3oz pour each), a case of Sam Adams (whatever will be in season) just to balance the cost a little and stick with SA. Glass came out to be about $20/ea shipping included. Together beer + glass came to about $50/pp. I'm bringing a bunch of beers that I got as extras to share as well to soften the blow. If I had an extra spot, I'd invite you, but I've already sat out a couple of friends for this. Definitely try to see if you can pull together something similar. I'm sure the fermented heads will take you up on it.
You have plenty of beers to offer to get this done. Some you could get away with less than $4$ (HF offerings) others would have to be closer to $4$ (Eclipse offerings). I'd place an ISO with some possible combinations and see what you get. It's a great beer and worth it.
