Looks like we're getting an Old Fashioned inspired beer. It'll be interesting to see how they blend out the spirit, bitters, and fruit components from a cocktail that's basically all spirit.

goose island did this a while ago in their chicago only, draft only 'fulton and wood' series though i can't remember the name of the beer. i think it was a rye-heavy mild ale with blood oranges.

As long as it's not a collab with Widmer...

As a fan of Old Fashioneds, that sounds fantastic. Once more details come out, if someone doesn't think they'll use their full allotment, would love to get in touch.

I think it would be interesting if they brewed a beer with a grain bill similar to that of a typical Bourbon or Rye grain bill and aged it in some barrels for the Old Fashioned beer. Then add botanicals and herbs typical of aromatic bitters and some orange zest, could be great.

The original/real Old Fashioned is just a combination of spirits, water, bitters and sugar. Any fruit that you add is just for aroma. IMO a hoppy barleywine is already pretty close to this formula. It's got the alcohol, a sweeter/carmel-like malt backbone and a bitter kick from the hops (and any beer's got plenty of water). It's only missing a bit of barrel character and a garnish.

So I think they should make a hoppy barleywine, age it on wood, and add just enough orange peel so that you get a bit on the nose. I just don't know if a beer like that is really in their repertoire. That would be quite authentic and sounds rather delicious.

If you look around at a group of Hoarders, 49.2% of them are the asshole hipsters who voted for Old Fashioned. The other 50.8% are just asshole hipsters.

I'm part of the 49.2% and apart from waxed mustaches, I'm still not really sure what a hipster actually is.

But unfortunately, I am definitely an asshole.

Oh tossing the term hipster around. A true sign of a real hipster, if you ask me.

I would not go to the bruery during the RS party weekend. Last year after the party they were at capacity and there was a line waiting to get in. This year the tasting room seems pretty damn busy most of the time and absolutely packed on the weekends.

Why is there a greater line during the RS party weekend if its held at Phoenix Club?
