Bad beer labels that deter you from buying?

Being a graphic designer as well as a lover of beer, I have noticed that terrible (I mean god awful) label art is out there. I always think to myself "What on earth are they thinking?" I cannot understand why some breweries try to market themselves with sloppy or cheap looking graphics and artwork. This is always a deterrent for me. I will not buy beer with packaging that makes me think they designed it themselves and printed it out on their Lexmark. I would like to know what awful artwork my fellow BA's have seen and if it will make you think twice before making a beer purchase.

That's funny this question came out since myself and a buddy just said the other day that Pliny the elder for me is the best beer I've had and would get all 5's but the label ahh a 2! doesn't matter since I'm not drinking the label just funny. I know its not god awful like your saying just compared to the contents its god awful!

Don't judge a book by its cover.

Case in point: What if they are a start up brewery but don't have the money to invest in labels/artwork but instead invest what they have into making quality beer? You would never know.

A lot of people here think Three Floyd's makes cheap or amateurish labels too (I'm not one of them), but the beer inside the bottle is almost always amazing. Once again you'd be missing out from just looking at labels.

Of course. I can't really think of anything off the top of my head though. But if I'm browsing for something new, and I see a brewery that I'm unfamiliar with, if they're labels suck, I'm definitely going to be less likely to buy. And don't even get me started on those damn FFF guys with their crooked labels that are barely stuck to the bottles...

I've never bought anything from Hoppin' Frog, despite the fact that they're probably awesome beers, because I can't stand that frog on the label.

I felt the same way, then someone suggested to me that borris was one of the best stouts out there so I picked one up. Then I continued to judge. Books by their covers, that was awful beer.

I agree completely, though there are some things I just cannot get past. One Brewery I would have never given the chance if it weren't for being told the make great beer is Darkhorse. I was so turned off by their unrefined logo and unappealing graphics that I didn't want to buy their beer. Now, I am glad that I did and will say that they make amazing stuff, but by now it would be within their budget to reassess their artwork. There is a brewery called Hoppin' Frog I believe that I just absolutely will not buy. It's too awful.

Yeah Dark Horse is another with terrible labels but really good beer. You should check out their website lol. Pretty sure they just don't give a damn.

Edit: looks like they updated their website but a couple of months ago it looked like one you'd make one free webs haha

Russian River labels are awful, does that stop you from drinking those?

Evil Twin Justin Blabaer. Worst label graphics ever. Very good beer, though overpriced IMO.

Their stuff is just super basic. Does not make me feel enthused to buy their beer nor do I feel it would deter me. Its very meh. Cool typography though.

I will have to give it a gander. I can only imagine the paint splattered mess that it is.

I thought the bottle art was better than the beer.

This alll day. Evil Twin is by far one of my favorite breweries (well collection of beers). That label though, ugghhh. It's one of the only ET beers available in my area that I haven't tried, and for that very reason.

We don't get distribution here (I imagine they're whalez), so I haven't had the opportunity to purchase, but these guys don't seem like they're trying very hard.

That terrible label is the whole point. It's on purpose!

I cant stand the Anderson Valley labels. They even redid them a year or so back. I get the joke (Bear+Deer=Beer) but I want to punch that stupid bear in the face. Oh but the liquid is solid. No complaints there.
