Anything of note around that area for beer bars or brewpubs/breweries...the only thing I can find so far is Angel City? Thoughts? Thanks for any help..
Far Bar is about as far as Angel City, but far better beers. Buzz Beer is a good bottle shop, if not a little pricy, then you have Spring Street Bar around there.
Ohana is in the (very) general area, as is Beer Belly. But wouldn't exactly call them "close" during rush hour or around the times of Kings/Clippers/Lakers games.
do you even lift bro? just kidding Little Bear and Far Bar are closest. cruise up Sunset and you'll find Sunset Beer Co and Mohawk Bend, both worthy of checking out
Within walking distance there is the new City Tavern at 7th@Fig. That is the only good beer bar that you dont need to drive (or cab or uber or lyft etc) to from Staples.
For convenience sake, The Yardhouse is right across the street from Staples. https://www.yardhouse.com/CA/los-angeles-restaurant/
First pick would be Beer Belly. One of the train lines (don't remember which one) will get you a half a block from the station. Far Bar is also good. Then you can always stop in at the Yardhouse for one or two more before heading into the Staples Center.
i did City Tavern the other day before going to a Lakers game. $10 32oz "growlers" of Sculpin and Fortunate Islands was a pretty great start to a winning game
Ah, I jumped the gun there slightly. April 7. So I guess it depends when the OP is headed to the area.
i guess i'm in the minority but i'm not crazy about Beer Belly. but it seems like a lot of LA BAs like it. curious what you like about it. i guess i'm not crazy about ambiance - specifically the seating - or the food. the bar is tiny so it's less likely you'll get a seat there. and the parking sucks from the times i've checked the tap list it never seems like they have anything that stands out in a big way from other places
The only thing I like about Beer Belly is the location. and the wings. DTLA: City Tavern, Golden Gopher, Spring st bar, 6th st Tavern, Public School, Far Bar, Weird Beers and Buzz for bottles. Angel City. If you are staying in DTLA just take Metro, you can get to Blue Palms super easy, Beer Belly super easy, Stone Pasadena store super easy.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned Little Bear. It is about a seven minute drive from Staples and has a great beer list and pretty good food also.
Thanks for the help. I am staying at Omni Losd Angeles Hotel at California Plaza. Anything of note within walking distance? Also any off-sale cans I could bring back in my luggage from any local microbreweries.
What I like about Beer Belly is that they offer really great beers at a great price. Typically they get special seasonal releases in like Abyss and they charge about the same as everything else on the tap list. Seating has improved since they added two patio areas. The food is also really good. Duck fat fries are always a great beer soaker as well their fish and chips. My favorite was the chicken and waffles. Add to that, Jimmy is a great guy and is always welcoming to the idea of hosting a bottle share that I put together, so yeah. I like that place a lot.
Kind of a dead area up there on bunker hill but....You can for sure walk to Far Bar and Angel City. Down the hill is Library Bar, 6th st tavern, there good stuff on Spring St. Buzz and Weird Beers are have a decent selection for bottles but they are both expensive as fuck. I would leave DTLA to go buy bottles/cans.....Golden Gopher has To-go also. Civic Center Metro station is super close also so you could take Metro anywhere really. Sunset beer co is a short bus ride away(bus 2,4 & 704)Ramirez is less than a mile from Soto Station off the Gold line, Oaks Gormet is close to Hollywood/Vine station.
