Seems like a lot of assumptions are being made here.

I'm really interested in the follow-up here. Is something shady going on? $20 also seems unreal; what's up with that? Really does make it seem like they're selling bottles for $20 a pop.

It's probably Miller High Life being disguised as Pliny #nothingtoseehere

The sign says "20oz", would have to be draft.

Am I the only one that thinks that hand drawing on the board is pretty damn well done? Got some clean lines going on there.

LOL they have a picture of what appears to indicate they are serving it in a "frozen" shaker pint.

Finding out that it's per bottle doesn't seem to make it any better. (And it would be an inaccurate sign, to boot.) Not sure where they get off charging $20.

I'll echo the above, though: if a local bar here (in freaking CT) were to offer $20 bottles of PtE, with the proceeds going to charity, that'd be another thing.

There is nothing to indicate it's going to charity. Russian River does not distribute in the area. The chef smuggled a few cases to sell at their fancy beach-side restaurant. I informed RR via FB.

    This is the place:

We have a local bar that was selling Alpine bottles (this was around 2 years ago) and Alpine doesn't distro in the Sac area, yet. I'm assuming someone turned him in because he hasn't done so.

If you're going to sell bottles that you get without going through the right channels, you shouldn't mark it up that much.

If I were to ever find myself Shell Beach and happened upon this place, I would be THRILLED that they had Pliny available and would be more than happy to pay $20 to split a bottle with my wife. It would be a nice little surprise treat. Is $20 expensive? Yes. Is a bottle of Pliny a small bottle to share? Yes. Do I care? No. I'm just happy my choices aren't limited to Coors Light or Boston Lager!

From my 5 seconds of viewing the page in the link (sorry, TL;DR) it doesn't take into account that I'd be sitting in a restaurant in Shell Beach with (usually, anyway) very limited craft beer options. Plus, those prices are what most of us pay for beers off the shelf anyway so I'm not sure how much credence I give their numbers.

Eh. I mean, if my choices are paying $20 for a bottle of Pliny or paying $6 for a glass of Boston Lager, I'm going with Boston Lager. I can get Pliny often enough for a fair price that there's no point in over-paying in that one instance.
