If I'm at home, 100% of my craft beer gets poured into a glass.

I actually had an experience this weekend that really hammered home the difference in freshness.

Jai Alai is to this day, the best beer I've ever had. The first time I had it, I got a 6 pack that was 8 days from canning. It completely blew me away. This weekend, I got 2 cans that were about 2 months old and it was still good but not the same.

On the flip side, I've only ever really liked Head Hunter. I always thought it was very good but nothing earth shattering. I got a bottle this weekend that was less than 2 weeks old and it was so much better than I remembered it being.

    Freshness matters.

Does it make you an uncultured swine to drink out of the bottle from time to time, OP? I'd think not, unless you're opening it with your eye socket or teeth and then smashing the empty over your head or throwing it at the wall when you're done. And even then there's probably still some wiggle room.

You're the one drinking the beer--drink it how you want to. The whole point is to enjoy something, so I have a hard time telling someone else how to best enjoy.

That being said, I never drink my beer out of the bottle at home. I'll do it, but only when the situation necessitates (for example, when on a casino floor, or when I'm playing softball/kickball I'll gladly drink out of a can), and even then I'll get a little ridiculous to have my beer out of a glass in otherwise bottle-conducive settings. I actually have a sleeve of plastic cups in the trunk of my car so that I have them at the ready anytime I'm at a tailgate or camping or other situation where glasses are unlikely to be found.

The bottom line for me is that I just enjoy beer more when I can see and smell it. And I do appreciate how pouring out the beer releases some of the carbonation, as I feel full too quickly when swigging out of the bottle. But that's just my personal preference.

Hanging out in the backyard grilling or camping, I'll drink out of the bottle. I don't really perseverate on the glassware. It's just beer.

If I'm doing sbs of various great beers with beer geek friends, then definitely stems of some sort.

Almost always from a glass at home. I will occasionally drink out of a can.

Ill never drink a stout from the bottle, it just feels wrong.

But yes, no matter what, ALWAYS pinkies up.

Never out of a bottle for me. I'll occasionally drink an APA/IPA out of the can... but even that is rare these days. I don't really care too much about the exact type of glassware... but nevertheless, I need a glass. I've been known to use a Solo cup a few times...

It isn't bullshit to drink fresh beer, it is bullshit to claim you can tell the difference between a three week old IPA and a four week old IPA, or to claim a five week old IPA is now a shadow of the 2 week old one.

At home, glassware. At friends/family, if they don't have glasses or the beer is crap , drinking from the bottle is fine.

I rarely pour cans into a glass, really the only time is when I am sharing. I thought Heady out of the can and Heady in a glass were two different experiences.

As others have mentioned, I'll drink IPAs, Lagers and the like out of a bottle no problem. Although if a have a choice of a proper glass I will take it. I always want my imperial stouts in a snifter.

I posted a nearly identical thread some months back and got pretty much blasted. I personally enjoy getting to let my guard down a bit from the fear of spilling. I won't do it with a beer that's at all new to me, though.

If your local bar is at all like any of my local bars, you've got your choice of bud light, miller light, coors light . . . .

99.9% of the time, if it's a beer I love, it goes in a glass.

But if I'm having something I've had many times before - something like Genny, Yuengling, or SNPA - and I'm just hanging out with friends and/or cooking on sunny summer night? Ah, just take the cap off a cold bottle and put it in my hand.

I'm glass for almost all craft beers. Cheap adjuncts actually taste much better to me out of the can or bottle than poured into a glass. Maybe pouring into glass warms it and we all know that you need to drink that stuff ice cold to enjoy it properly (for those that enjoy it at all).

I drink all beer out of a Tervis tumbler. It's double-walled and keeps my beverage at the relatively same temperature in which it entered the tumbler at.
