    UPDATE:

    Stochasticity™ Project

    VARNA NECROPOLIS
STYLE: GOLDEN BELGIAN ALE AGED IN BOURBON BARRELS ABV: 8.6% IBUS: 48
For many, the verbiage "Belgian Golden Strong Ale" conjures the mental visage of a chalice of straw-hued liquid nearly overflowing with tight, fluffy, white bubbles. Though that effervescent European classic was a solid base for this, the sophomore release from our center for beer experimentation, but to test its unexplored possibilities, we added a sufficient lode of hops to up the ale’s bitter character and dry finish. Next came a lengthy aging period in bourbon whiskey barrels, quite the rarity for this style. Named for the Bulgarian site from which the largest golden treasure in history was excavated, this beer presents a wealth of next-level nuances including vanilla, wood and spice.

I don't understand your point. Costco in CA is probably as cheap as it can get for a Stone beer. Beer doesn't just travel to Mass for free. The $3 difference between CA and MA is that big of a deal?

I guess my point was, I don't feel the beer was good enough to ask that price for it, especially when it was just ruination with grapefruit added. But at a lower price, I probably would have bought it again.

The local place will probably get a keg of this, charge $16 for pint, and my friend will buy it. I will ask for a taste, and get to try it. I'm excited to try it, but I need a taste first.

Has there been any info about finding it on tap, though? All I saw was the note above that said Stone Company Store locations only (for just bottles, though? -- didn't specify).

I've seen it on tap in Rochester at least once, didn't get it though.

Talking about the new one, though -- you've already seen that on tap?

Ah, never mind, got confused, thought people were talking about the grapefruit slam. Long day at work makes my brain pretty slow! Haven't seen the new one on tap.

Not that I know of. I was just assuming.

Anybody know when this is actually coming out? Been skulking around beer shops lately looking for FW Opal and haven't seen this one yet...

There's tons of Opal here on the Central Coast--probably not surprising. Where in CA are you?

Los Angeles area. They apparently have only distributed to points north of here so far. Ventura County and up has Opal, but from the Ventura/LA County line south, nada. But somehow, Churchill's in San Marcos has it on draft...

I will give this new one a try when I find it but that Grapefruit Slam was not my kind of beer. Really disliked it. This new Belgian Ale is more my style than a flavored beer.

From what was posted when it first came out, bottles were presumably only being released at Stone locations. Though draft options will likely turn up elsewhere.

This was poured at Oakquinox. I tried it, but unfortunately, I don't remember what it tasted like. Too many tasters.

After doing a very modest amount of reading at the Stochasticity website, there is indeed a very obvious "limited release at Stone locations" info bite.

Oh, well... would have been nice to try it.
