What is Capones charging for a bottle?

I actually think this is one of the best stand alone liquor/beer stores in the city. They do a good job posting what they have on fb. They also get a ton of great stuff. I also think making you buy the imperial stout is better then the alternative which is missing out or getting over charged.

Was able to get 12 bottles. a 4 pack from Binny's Lincoln park, 2 bottles from the Grand Binnys (Thanks Sis), 2 from Joe's wine cellar, great place by the way, wish I lived closer. A 4 pack from Go Grocers, by North and Damen but 9 bucks a bottle, yet no limit.

    All gone I'm sure

    So for useful info

Life's a Cabaret said maybe Thursday, but 2 stores a few yards away got theirs, so my guess is regulars only. Could be wrong, not saying anything bad about the place or holding for regulars.

Got another 4 pack waiting for me at another place since I'm a "regular".

    Now for the juicy tip

The Walgreen on North and Damen got theirs but not priced there for in back and not to be touched. The nice lady said tomorrow.

    good luck all

    ?

I realize a lot of people buy a special release never to be seen again and not all of us follow the buy something else rule on our own, but is making them buy something they might not want the way to combat this?

Is the fact that the distributor makes them buy other products to get the special release make the practice right?

    In the end

    If I don't shop there a lot, can't gripe, that's capitalism.

If I do, that's just bad Customer Service and you just lost my business to the place down the street... which I guess is capitalism too:astonished:

Lousy practice when they are the only place in the chicagoland area that is making you buy something to get a single KBS. Capone's said something like to support the brand? Buncha BS

The Prestige on Mannheim Rd was selling single bottles of KBS ONLY IF you bought a 12pk of Founders cans.

What are the places a few yards away? Did you mean Walgreens and Go Grocer? Or the place down by the FedEx? Just wondering if there's other shops I didn't know about in the area. Edit: Not for KBS, just in general.

For purely devil's advocate purposes, couldn't the argument be made that by having people get the extra 4-pack to get one bottle, it actually opens up opportunities for folks who just want a bottle to try it? I would think (and I could definitely be wrong) that the folks hunting round the city to load up their cellar (or whatever, no judgment!) are a lot less likely to buy a single bottle with a four-pack when they could more efficiently hunt elsewhere?

If everyone did this (and believe me I am glad they don't) I feel like there would be a lot more limited beer to go around. But I'd also be totally annoyed about it so like I said, just playing devil's advocate. And I guess this brings into the whole beer forum death spiral of discussing if shops should be the judge and jury for how people consume products and those who work hardest for it should get it and hey not in my America, man, who is anyone to decide what we do with our consumables and it's just beer and I hate beer and etc etc etc

I appreciate your perspective. I've thought about it the way you did and coming from a free market perspective, the main goal of a liquor store owner is to make a profit. That's why they are in business. Knowing well that people are going to buy his 1 or two case allotment of KBS, why not force people to buy something that they may not already want in order to purchase the thing that they really want. From the majority, KBS is a rarity and the shop owner will be able to enforce people to do this.

As a supporter of the free market, the liquor store should just put the case out and have no allocation limit. If someone wants to buy a case, they can buy a case. So be it. The market dictates that the demand greatly exceeds the supply. Hence the owner can also do what he is doing now.

Devli's advocate or going with what you believe works for this beer.

Capones has weird prices and practices, most items are a buck or 2 over what most places charge.
I see the higher prices since they have a good selection, but I saw a 16 buck Le Terroir there a while back, Really?

They post stuff on FB, keep the stuff they post hidden and run out 10 minutes later. While Beer Temple down the street posts, keeps it in plain view and has the same item for hours.

Must say that their regulars are pretty loyal, I also hear good things about the place, must be for a reason.

I personal don't shop there much even though I live close. Fischmans, Beer Temple and Foremost Jefferson Park and my go to places.

Oh and ppohio, yeah Walgreens and Go Grocer.

Noticed on Capone's twitter feed that the brewer of Perennial was in town and visited Capone. I'm new to this game but I'd imagine that's a pretty big deal

Join date aside, Capone s is named that for a reason. In addition to the things mentioned above, they have quite the tendency to post things on their beermenus that they never really had for sale or never even got.

    Capone as in Al Capone?

They posted a picture of the delivery from today and KBS was included.

The question of what Capone's charged for a single was never answered. Any of the Kool-Aid drinking Capone's fans care to answer?

That sucks that has been your experience -- I've never had an issue getting anything that has been posted on beer menus/facebook. But I'm also in there a minimum of once a week; I dont only show up when theres a special release (not insinuating you are).

I can't speak to higher prices at Capones because I've never noticed it. Just as a quick reference from beermenus.com for my most commonly purchased items:

    Pipeworks Ninja vs Unicorn
    Capones $9.99
    Andersonville Wine and Spirits $10.99
    Noble Grape $10
Puerto Rico Food & Liquors $9.99
    Golden Leaf $11.99
    Binnys $9.99 (on binnys.com)

    3 Floyds Dreadnaught
    Capones $12.99
    Bottles and Cans $12.99
    Zen Wine and Spirits $13.99
    La Primera $12.99
    Edgewater Food and Wine $11.99

    Off Color Troublesome
    Capones $9.99
    Walgreens $10.99
    Park West $9.99
    Rayans $9.99
    Puerto Rico $9.99

Seems to be exactly middle of the pack (and before you go thinking I just picked random stores on either side, I just used beermenus.com and searched for 60657 and pulled a few of the closest stores that had these products).
