Just curious, I have to go to a different website when looking up inspiration for a new brew. Not everyone is an active member in both places, and there are some pretty decent brewers here.

This would be for posting recipes, not recipe questions?

Right, for posting a specific recipe that you thought came out particularly well.

I'd be down for it. Tiny sub sections, not sure how much work it would be.

Bound to bring traffic to the site too, just for people searching for a certain recipe, or style.

I'd gladly post. Is the other place you're referring to HBT?

I chose option C as I dont think it will hurt the forum but I dont think it will be anything too great either.

I think youll wind up getting a lot of crap or repetitive/similar recipes posted and wind up losing the good ones in the mix. I know from HBT that there is some great info and I have used that site as inspiration for a lot of recipes, but you have to dig through a ton of crap to find a lot of the useful info.

I like the idea but we should try to standardize the format so it is easily searchable and what not.

Agreed, this is more a question of whether people have enough interest to bother bringing it up with the power that be, the details can be ironed out later.

I don't disagree, however, that would be something we could try to avoid in some way. For instance, there could be sections within the recipe sub-group where high scoring BJCP comp brews would be posted. This of course wouldn't be the only way to do so, but I think it can certainly be made functional.

I was going to say that too, but over the years from what I have read, I have realized that many members on this forum dont submit anything to competitions. I mean it would definitely help give a certain level of credibility to the posted recipe if the brewer has submitted it to competition - which is nice.

I would think that with enough brainstorming and working together there is a way that we as a forum can try to organize it so it does not become an exercise is sifting through garbage. I think it would really come down to how much time people want to put into keeping it organized.

Northern Brewer's site has a good recipe forum as well.

Your heart's in the right place with this idea.

Members of BA's HB community post their best-evah recipes.
Other Members get all inspired and shit and brew some best-evah recipes on their own.
Next thing you know...there's world peace and nobody ever again goes to bed thirsty.

    What's not to like?

By its very nature...homeboy brewing is an expressive exercise in free-styling.
The odds of folks posting their recipes in a 'standard' format are low...IMO.
The odds of folks posting 'crap' are not so low...again...IMO.

That said...there's no reason not to give it a shot.

I like the idea of a recipe only sub-forum. I think the only complication would be searching, there would have to be separate categories for style and some kind of ratings system. I may love my own recipe or another person's, but tastes are subjective.

This would be a good idea. Homebrew sub culture talk has two groups of posts, generally, recipe related posts and all others. Splitting would make sense.

Also having a recipe forum would be a way of sort of making a database of recipes. It would hopefully also be a place for follow up commentary on how recipes turned out. Often I see recipe critiques on the general homebrew sub culture forum and then the OP does not come back and give commentary, maybe a in a separate forum this would be fostered. This would be both interesting discussion and informative with regard to how a recipe turned out.

Yeah, this is basically the general outline I envisioned when bringing this up. Basically, the recipe sub-group would be organized into BJCP styles, and within those style subgroups there would be some way of separating recipes that are vetted or distinguished...such as through BJCP comp...or through user feedback.

Still, this is all premature, as I'm just trying to measure interest at this point.

I think this would be considered content that could be found elsewhere.
The discussions about recipes happen here when input is asked for, but a database of recipes would be a duplication of interwebs.

I think just a forum would be a de facto data base as you posts are archived.

I see no downside, and there might be a positive upside. I suspect the trick will be getting the powers-that-be to give it a try.

I don't think that it would necessarily be a bad thing, but it's not something that I would root for without there being some sort of vetting process. There's too much crap going on over at HBT.
