My sister will be visiting Chicago mid June and I'm having her pick me up some beer (obviously) while there. I'm in the NYC metro area and want her to get some FFF and Half Acre while there. Two questions I'm hoping to get help with; 1) where is the best location to get Dreadnaught, Zombie Dust, Artic Panzer Wolf, etc, and some Daisy Cutter & Double Daisy cutter? Also, is there any other recommendations for some good local stuff that isn't available around here(NY/MA/NJ) or on my radar? I've had a lot of Bells so that's not a priority, maybe Crooked Tree? She'll be staying around Halsted & Armitage in Lincoln Park, I know there is a Whole Foods close by, but don't want to miss out on a wide variety & selection, price isn't a top priority, but would be nice. Thanks for the help!

There's a Binny's Beverage Depot (huge IL chain store with a huge selection) quite close to Armitage and Halsted (maybe 10-15 minute walk), and another Binny's north in Lakeview not more than a 10 minute walk from the Belmont red line train stop. And, another Binny's downtown in the River North neighborhood. Not sure about the selection at Binny's for what you're looking for. Binny's will have the widest selection in Chicago. Binny's will also be the easiest for her to get to because they are in more trafficked areas.

I've heard good things about West Lakeview Liquors too. It would be North of where she's staying.

If she has access to a car and really likes her brother, then FFF brewery is roughly a 50 minute drive (not counting traffic) from Halsted and Armitage. That would be your best shot at scoring the most FFF brews.

Have you had brews by Founders? Though I'm a stout guy and you seem to be after IPAs, I liked their Centennial IPA quite a bit.

Thanks for the info! We get Founders around here, so she can save the room ...my sister is pretty cool, she drives up to VT from Albany, NY to get me Heady Topper so I might try and guilt her into it! I'll find out if she'll have access to transportation, it would be waaaay better from the brewery.

Re Half Acre, Double Daisy Cutter is not made with any regularity -- it's really a matter of 'when they feel like it', as far as I can tell. Daisy Cutter should be readily available.

Re Three Floyds, it's impossible to know if any stores will have what you're specifically looking for. Stores get an allotment of whatever FFF is able/willing to send them on any given week. Maybe it's a couple cases of Dreadnaught and Pride and Joy -- or maybe it's Robert the Bruce and Zombie Dust. FFF's June seasonal is Apocalypse Cow -- if your sister sees that (or even Blackheart, the May release), she should grab it. Like Lognar said, the brewery is the best for FFF (including a number of bottles that don't get released like Rye'd the Lightning and A Rich Life) but it is a short drive.

Re other beers... There's a chance Revolution will be doing bombers by then. Double Fist would be worth picking up (I'd suggest their standard IPA but the canning line won't be up and running for a while). Pipeworks' Ninja vs. Unicorn is spectacular - but there's no guarantee that it will be on shelves come mid-June. Other bottles from Pipeworks would be worth picking up, though.
