I posted something similar on a friends Facebook page when they shared that article:

You should be more concerned with the petrochemicals on the barley, than the GMO, HFCS, and flavor additives.

I mean, if you're going to get all nit-picky about it, at least mention the largest risk factor. Mashing grain basically washes all that crap off the husks, then it gets collected to make beer.

IDK folks. I mean have you had a popsicle? Then you have had high fructose corn syrup and you lived. GMO corn do you eat popcorn? You know what I mean? Isinglass - it sounds horrible but it's in a lot of beer. It just strikes me as late for breakfast some of this outrage as to certain ingredients.

Looking at the comments it makes me wonder whether all that money spent on the education system has been wasted.

Ridiculous anti-science blather. Hard to believe somebody wasted the time to put that article together.

"Here’s some harmful ingredients that are commonly found in beer:...& lots more!"

That "& lots more" can be deadly for sure!

All the bad things in my beer will go great with all the bad things in my food. Who cares, its alcohol and its delicious.

GMO's are not specific to just cross breeding. You should do some research but GMOs are created through genetic engineering which often can use contravertial and under-scrutinized addidives. Theres also alot of research to support the idea that many GMOs are unhealthy, check out the corelation between the genetically modified wheat strain created during the baby boom and the supsequent rise in children born with mental illness.

There is no science behind the popular thought that GMO's are harmful to ingest. They may well be, but there is no science behind that yet. Drink the beer you want. Budweiser, Newcastle, Coors, and others on that list are terrible beers so I try to stay away from them anyways.

People actually get diagnosed these days rightly or wrongly, trying to pin all this on GMO wheat is a bit of a stretch.

After the grain has been "washed" in the malting process, as The barley is soaked in water before it is germinated.

while I agree with the ultimate conclusions of the article, my reasons would have nothing to do with those in the article. 6/8 of those on the list are like the "wonderbread" of beer so whaddya expect? The other 2/8? I useta drink both Newky and Guinness (like 20yrs ago) Now there's so many better ways to drink...incl ones that still use isinglass.

Yeah, that will definitely help remove some of it. The point was just that petrochemicals were completely ignored, and that they're more concerning than what's pointed out in the article.

Guinness is the only one on the list of which I occasionally partake and I don't drink enough of it to worry about it so I'm good

I like insect based dies. Completely preferable to coal dies ( which is typically the alternative for that shade of red). Fish bladder also probably has omega 3's. :grinning:.
I don't think any of that beer needs a warning label at least not with people who appreciate really good beer. It tastes like crap!

Define "banned." Perhaps Whole Foods or the like "banned" it from being in their store, but there is no governmental ban on HFCS and it's still in basically every processed food from A&W root beer to Wonderbread.

It's obvious that the author of the article has never taken a genetics or biology class in their lifetime. I can't wait to read to follow up regarding any "artificial" yeast strains and hop varieties which have been developed in recent years.
