I lived in Deutschland for a while, that may explain it?

No, unfortunately before that. But I did attend in 1993. I had the good fortune to stand in line with Michael Jackson and discuss the beer I was drinking. My comments about it were pretty much what showed up in his next Pocket Guide to Beer.

The #16 bus will get you from downtown to within 4 blocks of Occidental in 35-40 minutes. As an added bonus, you get to ride over the historic St John's Bridge and catch some nice views of the city.

We were over that bridge in 2012 on our way to the coast. Recognized it as the suspension bridge in bridge ports adds.

Old Town Brewing took a third in the World Beer Cup for their Kölsch. Is this brewery worth visiting?

Which day are you visiting Bend? We don't have a fancy guide like Portland does, but if you're looking for suggestions I'm happy to make them.

I'll be visiting May 6-9, so if you have suggestions for Bend, I wouldn't mind.

Thank you for all the locals in putting together this guide to Portland. It has made my upcoming trip easy to plan, if not a bit ambitious.

My hotel is 10 minute walk from hair of the dog. I guess I know where I will be eating every night!

Are you leaving on June 5, @AnalogErik? I ask because June 5-15 is "Portland Beer Week". The website for PDXBeerWeek hasn't been updated yet for 2014, but I know that the Fruit Beer Festival (a terrific event) will be that first weekend and there will be other things happening every day... if you can extend your stay a day or two you should...

First off, thank you so much for putting this together! I'll be out there in a couple of weeks and this was super helpful.

I was wondering you're opinions on which brewery is putting out the best IPAs right now? Really dig super dry and aromatic IPAs.

Barley Browns. Brewery is in Baker City but their beers are easy to find in Portland.

Yep, Barley Browns is the forgotten stepchild to Boneyard. Both breweries make impressive hoppy beers. Gigantic's Ginormous was excellent but may not be super fresh when you get here. The latest batch of Blue Dot is one of the better ones in recent memory. Not sure of the current status of Laurelwood Megafauna, but that is an impressive IPA. NWIPA on Foster often has one-off big IPA's on. And you may be a little late for it, but Block 15 Sticky Hands drops at the Brewery on the first Saturday of the month and generally shows up in Portland the following week.

Breakside's Wanderlust IPA is another tasty one.
