Passing through a good slice of PA and a slice of MD on my way to the OBX this June. Here is the map that shows my route: https://goo.gl/maps/v9Jaj

Just wondering, what are some great bottle shops that I should hit on the way? Making the whole drive in one day and it takes a while so not looking to go too far off the beaten path. I heard House of 1000 Beers is good in Pitt. What beers should I be on the lookout that I would not find in OH? We have an ABV cap of 12% if that helps. This will all be on a Sunday, not sure if that matters.

You can check out Settlers Ridge Giant Eagle Market District. It's outside of Pittsburgh on 376 West. I'm not sure they would have anything outside of what you would find in Ohio, but it would be worth a look. It's right off of the highway, and you would be in the store within 3 minutes of exiting.

Ye Old Liquor Shoppe in Frederick MD is less than 5 min off your route and definitely worth stopping by.
There's also a Total Wine in Springfield VA just off 95.

Apparently you didn't click on the link because his route isn't taking him within 50 miles of either Frederick or Springfield.

Those are both right off my route actually. I wonder if different routes are showing up for different people? Aside from bottle shops, are there specific beers I should seek out? Anything really good outside OH distro?

Any chances I might find Dogfish 120, World Wide Stout, BCS & Variants, Firestone Walker (Parabola, Sucaba, Union Jack, Walker Double Jack), Jai Alai, or La Folie? Trying to get a list going on what to seek out.

Stop at Rozi's Wine House?

There should be some Total Wine's off 95 in VA: http://www.totalwine.com/eng/Store-Locator

I think they'd have regular Firestone Walker, but the Parabola, Sucaba probably not. Same with BCS...I normally look at TW in Nothern Virginia, but if it's anything the same, a lot of the rare stuff doesn't stay around very long.

Jai Alai has NOVA distribution, but don't know where that ends.

What is NOVA? Is that the distribution company or some abbreviation I'm not up to speed on? lol

    Northern VA... I think.
To OP: too bad you're not passing through the eastern part of PA, you could have stopped at the bottle shop that is my cellar...always enjoy sharing and passing on beers to weary travelers.

Yes, sorry. NOVA = Northern Virginia, which has slightly different distribution than the entire state due to the higher amount of population.

You might find 120 minute, WWS, Jai Alai, and maybe some Firestone/Lost Abbey/Port/Russian River stuff at HO1KB. Pittsburgh barely got any BCBS, that stuff is gone. New Belgium is not distributed in PA yet. GEMD at Settlers Ridge has a great selection, but 99% of what they have would be available in Ohio.

Thanks guys. Not sure if OH has much that PA folks would desire but I could always bring some Fat Heads, Jackie O's, Brew Kettle, New Belgium, Knee Deep, or Three Floyds (limited) with me to do an IP swap on the way down / back.

Is there any place other than House of 1000 Beers where you can get Jai Alai in Pitt? Going to be there today and tomorrow.

It initially showed a route through Morgantown for me.

If passing by Hagerstown, Wooden Keg Liquors was a good stop for me recently. Though they had a lot of New Belgium that I don't normally get. Not sure what you are getting in Ohio from them.

Dominion Wine & Liquors in Falls Church, Va was good. They also had Jai Alai when I was there; a lot of it. I also got a few bottles from Lickinghole and Lolita.
Not that I am aware of. They get a lot of stuff that no one else does.
