Yes I did. My dad and I for the past 3 years always have one together when it comes out, it's one of his favorites. I had one that I had got inside, needed another. My Dad is 74 and I know the opportunities to share that moment of having one with him are getting fewer. I didn't know if I would find anymore, so I wasn't going to let the moment pass.
Did I pay too much, hell yes. Would I do it again to share one with Dad, you bet your ass I would.

I've tried black note before (not this years), but I might be in Tampa this weekend, and I have KBS and some BCBS that we could maybe pop for comparison...

BM me if you'd really be interested and maybe we can set something up.

Damn. I'm up in Orlando. Would've hooked you up with one if you weren't 2-3 hours away. I'd grabbed an extra one for a friend in Sarasota who thought he missed it at his local store due to work. He ended up grabbing one of the last ones his shop had.

Thanks for the offer bro. I go back to Indiana tomorrow. All hope is not lost. My guy said he would hold some for me. Hoping he got some and kept his word.

Ahh man I wish we made this connection earlier. I was in Bradenton today doing a little brewery tour on this rainy day. Hit up Big Top and Motorworks. Thanks for the offer though.

Next year if you really want a KBS for your dad please just let me know. No reason to waste $50 on a mediocre beer.

IMO, no. This years was especially bad. It tasted like a Breakfast Stout that had maybe been working out for a few weeks. If it were about $2-$3 a bottle like BS, sure, it would be okay. But at the $7 mark, plus the hassle to get it, hell no. It's very thin for a stout, and has very little bourbon presence and even the coffee this year is subpar.

Perhaps i'm just spoiled with these thick and delicious stouts CCB makes, but KBS is no longer on my radar.

Hope it works out! It's a pretty great beer (but like others have said, don't compare it to BCBS). Worth the little bit of effort to obtain it, though i'd certainly not pay $10+ for it.

Craft beer has become cut throat. Arguing everyone should be a good sport and take their one bottle, is akin to asking 'Merica! to stop being run by greed and share the wealth among the poor. Its not gonna happen. All you need is one person to not buy into the plan and the whole case is gone. So rather than be hopeful of a better tomorrow, attempt to get to the stores earlier than the "other guy". If you don't feel like truck chasing or being at a store at 5am, no one is forcing you. But, to bitch one guy bought it all when you did nothing to A) stop him or B) beat him to the punch is your own fault. Is Kbs worth blood? Hell no! But had the shelves been stocked with 6 bottles of hommage (no limit) most of you "save some for the rest" guys would be singing a different tune.

Don't mean to come off as an ass hole, which I know I did, but in reality I'm partly on your side. Truly I'm a communist at heart when it comes to taking care of everyone's need...but just how communism fails in the real world (yet looks great on paper), your ideals of generosity fall flat when it comes time to purchase beer. I know when to fold my cards when a good idea can't come to fruition. I do find it ironic, however, that many of the same guys muling 6+ bottles, are the first guys to share bottles at other releases.

I don't think anyone was bitching at him because he took the opportunity to "clear out the store" (although it can be debatable), it was more the follow up post complaining that the next store had reserved their bottles and wouldn't sell to him! Complaining it wasn't fair or in the rules that someone can reserve the bottles...just silly.

I'd gladly still share a beer with him and don't think he's a bad person - just laughed at the irony is all.

BA 101 - don't go on the internet bragging about your "haul."

Especially when you subsequently cry about someone else doing the same.
