I am shooting for a super drinkable session IPA so I figured, why not clone Boat Beer. I did as much research as I could and worked up with this...

I read that they use pilsner base, kolsh yeast, and I'm guessing they use wheat which I added. For hops I found an article that says they uses Nugget and Crystal to bitter and tons of late additions of Citra, Galaxy, Cascade and Nugget. I subbed Mosaic for Galaxy due to availability.

    Thoughts?

Looks tasty. I know nothing of the beer you are trying to clone so I can not comment on this. I did not run your numbers but viewing your recipe I think you will have a higher O.G. Good luck.

Why 1lb of extract? Just trying to get rid of what you have on hand?

I mean, if you're already doing a mash, why bother?

I do sort of a hybrid BIAB/partial mash. I can really only do up to 6-7 lbs of grain in my brew pot. So I make up the rest of the gravity with extract. A cooler mash tun is on the horizon for me for sure

I do the same thing. What do you find your efficiency to be like?

Low, I use brewers friend as a calculator and I generally pick a Brewhouse efficiency of 30-35% as I'm designing the recipe and I hit it. Sometimes I'm a bit over and closer to 40-45.

Oh, that is low. I usually get around 60-70% using this method.

    What's your mash temp?

Depends on the beer, for this one I was thinking of mashing around 150. What's a good efficiency calculator online because I'm not even sure how Brewers friend calculates it?

I do the exact same thing. Do you keep your sparge water low temp to get more conversion? Maybe I should try that...

My last brew I hit the OG right on the nose with the efficiency calculator set to 30% in my recipe. Who knows?

I'm not sure about online calculators but you may want to try a higher temp to get some more unferntables in your wort to thicken up the mouthfeel so it doesn't feel so thin. The rest of you recipe looks great. I hope it turns out well for you! Good luck man!

I could be hearing him wrong, but I believe at 1:06 Augie claims that 8 different hops are in boat....

I do usually mash around 151F for most styles just to encourage fermentability. I try to get my "dunk sparge" temp around 160F once the grain is added. Other than that, not sure what to tell you.

I tried that Boat Beer at Extreme Beer Fest and really liked it.
Wonder what an all-grain version of that recipe would be like...
